    Propane Alarm

Not sure what kind of batteries you're using in your FWC camper, but, using a vented battery can be quite dangerous due to lack of forced air ventilation in the battery compartment. Using a vented battery will surely get you alarm activation when charging and they are probably not false alarms...

    Propane Alarm

If you have the original Atwood unit which is the combined Propane/Carbon Monoxide alarm, its not surprising it failed. My factory installed unit failed about 3 months after camper purchase. FWC sent me a new unit. The replacement unit failed last spring. Random, false alerts is the primary...

Long hot summer has me thinking...

Good find Eddie! I'm also using the ClimateRight. I'm only using it at campgrounds with shore power here in the southeast during summer. I can't sleep with a generator running all night and try to avoid those places where folks are using them. Noise pollution to me.

Removed the head banging push bar

What a great idea! Well done Lobster! Last May, camping at the hot springs at the Alvord in SE Oregon, we experienced a late season snow storm with winds approaching 70 MPH. Was NOT fun! I'm wondering if we remove the factory head banger push bar, will the front push panels be more likely to...

More Power! USB Charger upgrade for the camper

Installed these in my 2015 Hawk last summer. I very nice addition! A Dremel opens up the hole to accommodate the Blue Seas unit very quickly. I recommend covering the entire outer portion of the plate with blue painters tape to prevent scratches while opening up the hole. I charged 2...

What one of our members did 6 years ago for fallen aviators ...

I spend far too much time reading ride reports over on AdvRider, a dual sport motorcycle oriented forum. I came across this thread recently. Being a Marine, in a different stage of life, I'm a little slow to connect the dots. But it appears one of our members (and his friends) did an...

Hodakaguy's Overland Tacoma Builds - FWC Combo

I like the clean, minimalist look as well. And not needing to replace the factory front corner panels with huge bumper extensions. I just wonder why the fabricators can't design and fabricate the fairlead portion of such bumper perpendicular to the ground? Indeed a new roller should be...

Hodakaguy's Overland Tacoma Builds - FWC Combo

Nice and clean install. Looks good! My preference is a bumper that allows you access to the winch's spool, preferably from the top and the portion of the bumper for the fairlead perpendicular to the ground. After 40+ years of winching through trial and error and later some very good...

    Rotor and brakes question

I'm familiar with that link and article. Warp is a common, catch-all term used by many, especially in the racing community. It is a very common term thrown around in NASCAR garages here in NC. And when the term is thrown around, folks know you're referring to the braking surface and not the...

    Rotor and brakes question

It Tacoma rotors are that thin, perhaps one has to expect to replace them at more frequent intervals than full size or HD trucks. But, I've turned (resurfaced) solid rotors at every other pad installation on Ford Super Duties for over 40 years. While turning does remove material and ultimately...

    Rotor and brakes question

Replace all the braking system parts. Does not appear to be enough material remaining on the rotors to even consider having them turned. Plus the rotors appear to be deformed, so best to replace them. Slotted rotors are cool in both appearance and cooling. Pun intended. Yet, slotted rotors...

    Forgot to latch

I picked up several blank white plastic door hangers, like the Do Not Disturb hanger for a hotel room door, and hang it from my visor. I make an appropriate checklist for whatever I have on the truck, camper, boat, etc.. I make sure checklist is complete before driving off. Not much different...

Other than dealers word how do I know what PLY my tires are?

Indeed, "PLY" is a old hold-over term from the days of cotton ply tires, which are no longer used. As others have stated, LOAD RANGE is the variable you should be most concerned about when sourcing tires for your truck/camper rig. Then proper tire psi for your actual payload. Some guys add...

    Forgot to latch

I once asked Tom (former owner) what kind of sustained winds can the soft fabric sustain with the top up. Tom replied "70 MPH for at least 4 hours". Perplexed, I asked, unh? Tom had forgotten to lower the pop and drove from SOCAL back to the factory after a show. When he stopped for gas, he...

Staying Cool Without an Air Conditioner

Thermal pack does work well...in both winter AND summer! As long as their is little to no humidity (like the stifling variety we have in NC and SC) we found nights rather comfortable out west. Mainly due to the wide temperature variation between high noon and midnight...and little to no...

Staying Cool Without an Air Conditioner

Toss a couple of rubber snakes under the truck...that will keep the little critters at bay. Learned this at OX-West about 4 years ago. Noticed ground squirrels climbing on my front tire and disappearing. Next day, popped the hood and they had already hauled off half of the air...

    Revisiting heavy duty trucks

Thx Eddie! My thinking exactly. I need a daily driver to take dogs with me, pull the boat, haul stuff and get decent MPG. The 3.4L get about 22MPG around town so I've been told. Not sure about Baja. I will be driving it to SC from MO next month. I will know more about long range/distance...

Low power flame on one burner?

Your welcome Russ! I talked a lot about CO poisoning with my family Doc. CO poisoning is tough to treat even with the proper medical help because CO does not want to give up its bond with blood very easily, especially to O2. Recall CO poisoning is what killed that family in a rented condo...

Low power flame on one burner?

Thanks for posting "manifold tube" term!!! I couldn't think of the term to save my life. That is where I found the debris which was not so much clogging but limiting uniform gas flow to the burner. Hence the low and partial flame.

Low power flame on one burner?

I had this issue last year with my low profile, glass top cooktop rear burner installed at the factory. My burner would light off but the flame was exceptionally low and only about 180 degrees of the burner would light off. I checked for gas leaks at the fittings, no leaks. I removed the...

    roof lifting helper shocks thingys

Thanks for the suggestion Steve! I'm only installing the gas struts/springs on the rear. The wife can not lift the rear into place. It is a bit heavy and you have to use your legs to push the roof up into place. Not sure where I'd stow the speaker lift as we are already tight on space. We...

The jacks are only on the camper when I have to remove it...which has been 4 times in 3 years.

Is slight misalignment of camper a reason to reload?

Not an issue. But, it will tickle the back of your mind all day long until you re-load the camper symmetrically.
