Backing plates pulling through truck bed

From what you have identified, installing bigger backing plates alone will not suffice. May need to shift the eyebolt locations to be closer to the cross member or though cross member. If that is not possible (too far from recommended eyebolt location) then add some structural support resist...

    Health scare and trip planning

At our house we had a rapid learning curve on the shelter in place protocols. I retired in October and will have to postpone wandering for a while. Meanwhile I've waxed all my skis and put them away as the season is over- even backcountry is over. Was going to try to summit Shasta and ski...

    2020/F-150 XLT Interior

Nice truck. The rear floor on the Supercab is just big enough for the dog. I like the Supercab configuration because you can access front seats and back seats without a door in the way and the wheelbase is shorter than a supercrew. Too bad they don't offer the HDP with a 6.5 foot bed for my...

Solar Noob Q: [@Costco] Coleman 100w Panel integration

I'm a solar noob too. Just a thought, if a portable panel had it own controller; would it not be feasible to rewire the rear plug so that it goes directly to the house battery? You would then have two separate controllers charging the battery independently. Should be Ok? I had also read...

F-150 Regular Cab 6.5' box - Suspension Upgrades

From what I have read, an open diff is best on icy road conditions. Limited slip or locked diff might cause one tire to momentarily loose grip on the road thus causing a slide/spin; typically going around bends in the road.

    Chukkars? Huns? Pheasants?

Pheasant season opened Saturday. Out in Suisun marsh dog put up one bird and we got that rooster. Monday was up in Sacramento Valley after seeing a few hens he put up two roosters but I foolishly missed both. Today was back at Marsh and after three hens he put up a rooster which we got...

    Chukkars? Huns? Pheasants?

Even a single bird is a nice reward for all that hard work walking the hills. Looks like a nice Citori that you have there. I just picked up my new 16 gauge Citori Feather Superlight which I am looking forward to using very soon.

    Safety wire?

I've read most of the threads on securing the turnbuckles and I feel that your idea is the best so far. Thanks for sharing.

    Water Tank Drain Spigot Replacement

I am just replacing mine today on a 2015 Hawk. I got 4 years on the plastic model and very easy to change. I will use the hose clamp only to seal the barb and butyl rubber caulk for the flange to camper along with two screws...

    Power connection help

I used a saw blade to create a new lug location mid span between bolt ends. So far so good for me.

    Hawk or granby

My take: never leave tailgate on and try for no rear overhang. Hawk has all the amenities (sleeping, seating, cooking , heating, frig, etc) of the Grandby just short of some floor space. If you really need floor space a Fourwheel camper is not a good choice even if a Grandby.

    Rotor and brakes question

Rotor replacement rather than turning seems to be the norm these days. I had the shop do my F250 front brakes and went straight to new rotors without any consideration of turning. However on my 2005 Jaguar I recently slapped in new pads on the Brembo brakes and I used my angle grinder to...

    Shower Enclosure

Installed a couple of brackets to hold a shower enclosure next to side of Hawk camper. Still need to try it out soon.

Yakima Rack vs aluminum rack on Hawk

I'll be the lone wolf. I like the fixed aluminum rack. I carry lumber and a pair of boats (canoe and kayak).

    Flexible Solar Panel Installation

Nice job on that project. I was going to do something very similar. In the end I decided rather then framing a flex panel to just go rigid. So far so good.

    1988 F-250HD Weight?

In San Rafael I've gotten free scale weight figures at both Shamrock Materials and at Marin Resource Recovery. If you don't need a certificate.

    Eye Bolt mounting location dilemma/opinions

You make two very good points. I go with splayed out. Easier to access through the little doors in the camper and less interference from the eye bolts when hauling stuff with the camper off.

    Question about air compressor

My Viair compressor looked weather resistant so I placed it under the truck along with a 2.5' gallon tank. Still need to do the plumbing and electrical wiring. To be followed by the ARB rear locker.

    Solar controller placement

Yes, I also saw the vertical fin requirement. And for my hawk install, upside down worked well. Wires accessible with the drawer removed.

How about a sheet of 3D open cell mat between the panel and the roof to allow airflow?

    Small solar on Hawk

With propane fridge I opted for a single 100 watt solar panel just forward of the factory rack. The rear of the solar panel frame is attached to the rack. And, I placed the panel to one side to preserve room for canoe/kayak. MT-5 meter is inside the cabinet and controller is behind.

    Rear Window Leak 2015 Hawk

I have not had a second occurrence of the leak so far. I'll likely wait until that happens then try adding sealant between the glass and rubber moulding. My leak never overtopped the aluminum window frame into the camper area. Yours sounds more severe.

Ultimate Flexible Solar Panels - successes and warranty replacements

Hi Kodachrome. I'm getting ready to try solar on my Hawk. Did you screw the flex panels to the roof using only the six grommet holes provided in the HQST panel? If so does it appear to move much up/down from the wind? Screwing the panel instead of gluing seems like a good opportunity to...
