    Rice Build thread!

Instead of just cutting the rails I've thought of widening them. The inside needs to be where the outside is now, From the fenders back. It really wouldn't be a big job. But for now I'll use it as is. Too many other irons in the fire. The other thought is that puts the camper base closer to the...

    Rice Build thread!

Bigger than I need bumper on the front of the camper. These space it off the front wall a bit too far for my truck. I think these are just generic truck/loading dock bumpers. I'm going to try making the new ones from this packing foam. It's not like I back the truck under the camper with any...

    Rice Build thread!

A quick shot of the platform in the Tundra. The eyebolts are for securing the camper. The underside of the camper was due for some cleaning and paint. It was dirty and weathered. I washed it off and gave all the wood a quick sanding with a palm sander and some 120 grit. Masked then the...

Shade House / Screen House recommendations please

Does anyone have any experience with this screen house? Eureka northern breeze? https://www.campmor.com/c/eureka-northern-breeze-screen-house We were on the outer banks last year and someone a couple of sites down had something similar. They had the drop down wall/awnings and just let them blow...

No Destination : hoyden and two dogs hit the road full-time

Sorry to hear about Pugsly! Sometimes things happen for a reason. Now you have a hole in your heart for a while. But one less worry about Pugsly's care while you are working. Best of luck with the new Jobby Job. I'm supposed to be out in Missouri with my camper in late June for a fishing trip.

    Firestone airbags and daystar cradles?

Actually Firestone recommends that you always have a little air in the bags. When my truck is empty I run 5psi in the bags. Even with the cradles on the bags are always in contact unless the truck is lifted by the frame or twisted up. The bags work. But they are not without their...

AGM deep cycle vs. AGM solar battery

When I was looking for a battery for my solar system I told thefolks at my local battery place what I wanted and what I was going to use it for. They recommended this. It a sealed lead acid true deep cycle with heavy plates. This is the style of battery you were describing for home solar...

    Firestone airbags and daystar cradles?

Mostly street use since I installed them. But can't say I even think about them or the air bags unless I'm checking air pressure.

    Battery choice

Yes AGM batteries are dual purpose or Hybrid batteries. They are deep cycle. They also are sealed so no issues with having to vent the battery or worry about spills. You can also still get real deep cycle sealed lead acid batteries for much less money. I bought a group 31 for my camper. It's...

    Rice Build thread!

I decided to start some more camper tuning. To use the Eagle in my Tundra I had to build a platform. I went quick and simple with 2x4's and plywood. It's pictured above. The design worked great but needed a little tweaking for a better camper fit. So I took it apart to reuse the plywood and made...

Pop rivet vs sheet metal screw

If you pop rivet use the larger 3/16" and use aluminum rivets. That will keep down any corrosion problems. I riveted a lot of pieces in my aluminum boat. No issues and that was 10 years ago.

    Truck Length constraints?

I guess our age is showing. But that was my instant thought as well. HJ unless you really plan to haul passengers regularly I'd skip the crew cab. Go for an extended cab 8' long bed. You are looking to carry a bit of gear. You have also stated this camper will be a live in as opposed to a...

What's the new furnace being installed by FWC?

I'm pretty sure this is the furnace in my Eagle. Watching my Trimetric it draws about 2.5-6 amps. when the burner kicks off it draws 1.5. I suspect the solenoid that opens the gas valve draws 1 amp. I've been pleased with it.

Fine for the driveway. I wouldn't drive on the road like that even though it would probably be fine.

Fold down step sheared in half: VERY dangerous

Quite possibly. That rust got inside there somehow. Things don't rust from the inside out without a way for moisture to get in there. But that doesn't mean a hairline crack would be easy to see. In the pic it seems to have broken along the cast in tread bump line. Probably not something that...

    Truck Fridge Portable Fridge

It's just a cord. Buy a 2nd one for cutting. That's what I did. As long as you get the polarity right you should be good. As far as warranty how would they know if you hard wired it or just plugged into a lighter?

Fold down step sheared in half: VERY dangerous

Yep that looks like a bad casting. It's been broken inside for while. Probably since made. It would be a good idea to inspect the other ones closely.

    Truck Fridge Portable Fridge

That's correct. I just cut off the lighter connector and crimped on a power pole. When you get your fridge call Truckfridge and buy an extra 12 volt cord. One for the new power pole and one with lighter plug for other uses. As for in your rig I'd pass on the new lighter socket and just put a...

    Rice Build thread!

Some friends are moving due to a new job. They had a small utility trailer they needed to get rid of quickly. So I bought it cheap. The Eagle camper is stored outside and often just sits on milk crates in the drive when not in use. It's also been stored on one of my boat trailers at times. This...

    Rice Build thread!

Thought I'd post a couple of reference pics of my fridge set up. It's on a mounting base on the floor up front. Held down with 4 sheet rock screws. Quick test that I've had no reason to change. When camped the bed is usually extended. This sits nicely under that with good access. The...
