Small camper (fleet-swift) in a full size truck?

I've got an Eagle in a 1st gen Tundra and find it ideal. It did require a slight platform to raise it up a little.

    ARB vs Dometic ?

Going on 2 years with the Truckfridge TF51, No complaints at all. Good bang for the buck and customer service seems good too from what I've read and my experience ordering a couple of spare parts. I like the mounting plate setup.

    DC wire types

This is the wire I used on my camper. Very good quality and price. Flat Duplex DC Marine Wire Also a good source for fuses and circuit breakers. I used Anderson connectors where I needed to plug and unplug things. Got most of that here. along with crimp tools. Anderson Power Products SB50 SB...

    Suggestions for stapling into aluminum

The factory uses staples because it's quick and easy. Cuts down product time and costs. Personally if I was rebuilding a camper I'd avoid using staples. Too many other good fasteners in my opinion. Several of the staples in my roof/ceiling strips have pulled out or are loose.

    Helper Springs enough?

Most any local spring shop can add a leaf to your stock rear packs for well under $500. That's the best way to go. I had new complete packs made with 2 additional leaves for my Tundra by Deaver Spring. The cost wasn't much more than I mentioned above. They even made then specific for drivers...

    FWC Workshop Vise

I like it! I have a small clamp on vice in my boat. I also have a receiver mount vice that I carry occasionally. That extra hand is often worth it's weight in gold. Just keep it greased up or it will rust fast in the weather.

Half ton truck payload how to increase it?

TM you probably have c rated LT tires on a 1/2 ton. E's don't usually happen stock till 3/4 ton or more. Most 1/2 tons these days come with P metric passenger tires. If they don't say LT as part of the tire size that's what they are. Going up to E's will make a huge difference in sway.

Bad idea? Portable Zamp Solar related question

That's why I say start with the controller. Always better to have one brain. Especially if that brain allows a variety of inputs. X10 if this is not your THING so to speak. Kiss principle. My system is very simple and versatile. But I have a good working knowledge of what I'm doing. Might not...

Bad idea? Portable Zamp Solar related question

I'm not that up on MPPT controllers. But I feel the Bogart PWM stuff does a wonderful job and can handle most anything you would do with a small camper. There is a reason many of us use them. Cost is reasonable. They are not hard to install and are programmable to do a pretty precise job. To me...

Bad idea? Portable Zamp Solar related question

Actually there is no competing. as long as the battery is full. Hard to explain this without drawing pictures. The shunt has nothing to do with the panel or it's controller. On my Bogart system a shunt (very precise resistor) is installed in line between everything and the battery. The solar...

Air compressor lift system for roof

As long as all 4 cylinders are charged from the same airline. Then air pressure itself should synchronize them well enough. But the cylinders will need to be identical.

Bad idea? Portable Zamp Solar related question

1st question: I take it you want to use 24v panels to take advantage of what an MPPT controller does best? But your camper and the loads within will still be 12 volt correct. So you will feed the controller with 24v nominal from panels but charge a 12 volt battery system and run a 12 volt...

is a pop up really worth it?

Well put. A beater used FWC or ATC might well be the compromise the OP needs. Get the price down on a proven platform. Then rebuild it to suit your wants and needs. I've done that with cars, boats, tractors and more. Most of my big ticket items actually. My used FWC is kinda the exception to...

    Securing the contents

I like those Wolf Pack boxes. I currently have a couple different Plano sportsman's trunks. About 1/2 that price and will keep rain out if outside. My kitchen box is a fairly large one and sits on the fold back seat of the cab lased down with cam straps. I also have a smaller on that is sold as...

Air compressor lift system for roof

So I finished basting together six panels with windows today. Tomorrow I sew them up and then wait for the next batch of basting tape to come in - I used way more than I thought I would. Then comes sewing it all together. I'm still looking for different approaches to lifting and lowering the...

Air compressor lift system for roof

Actual lift time? 10-15 seconds. Add a minute or 2 total for setting it in place at both ends. The biggest issue is usually moving gear around for access. Once the latches are open and I'm inside the camper. Time from grabbing the lift and drill and setting it in place at both ends and lifting...

is a pop up really worth it?

The above covers a lot of it for me. Traditional RV don't do much for this old backpacker, gravel bar camper. The FWC feels pretty luxurious to these old bones. especially when I turn on the thermostat on a chilly evening. Set up is a non issue. Most of the time my camper lives on the truck...
