    The Long Way Home

Just bring your heater as there should be below freezing temps. NW NM can be plenty chilly and April will likely produce some strong winds, snow at higher elevations. As for travel mode.... I have done both and sometimes like to get some fast miles under my belt the 1st day. Depends on...

    coleman stove or --?

Another Coleman option: I've been happy with this, think I found it from someone's recommendation here. Folds up nicely. I have an adaptor that I use to refill the small bottles from my 20# tank. Grates can be used upside down or right side to give you an option on...

Anyone installed PV panels for the home?

Thinking about installing panels on the house to counter the electric bill. Have great solar exposure and the Electric company will buy all the juice I don't need. With the 30% fed and 10% state credit it would cost me about $8500 and maybe save me $1500 a year, seems hard to go wrong. I can...

    Smksignals 1996 Grandby

I am looking to buy a 1996 Grandby this weekend. The PO has the camper secured with turnbuckles to the exterior of the truck and the camper jack brackets. Is this a correct method of securing? There are no access panels inside the camper for interior mounting turnbuckles. It looks like custom...

New truck, gravel = mud flaps?

I guess running boards detract from the macho quotient but I wouldn't want a truck without them. My F250 has a slight lift and 285/75 tires so it is not all that high but still the boards are convenient multiple times per day.

    Yellowstone In The Fall

Have you been to Glacier NP yet? My second favorite highway is Going to the Sun....not all that far from Yellowstone and western Montana is beautiful. FYI From the Glacier NP website: This year road construction in September 2012 will make a portion of the Going-to-the-Sun Road...

    Yellowstone In The Fall

Yellowstone you say? The wife and I are headed that way around mid September. Great minds think alike. Perhaps we'll see each other. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, let me know what dates you'll be there. We can compare notes on the EXPO. I'm headed there as well, around the middle of...

Any FWC in Central Texas area?

If near Las Cruces, I have an ATC Bobcat that you could look at. While not as large as a Hawk/Panther, you can get a pretty good idea of what they are like from an Eagle/Bobcat. I'm also near Las Cruces and have an older Grandby that is currently off the truck. little bigger of course. Might...

    Outside shower using existing pump?

I bought the Harbor Freight transfer pump. You can connect a female garden hose fitting to both the in and out, or a male 3/8" fitting. Since I removed the fridge a couple years ago I installed the pump just inside the external door that provided access to the guts of the fridge. There is enough...

    Newer vs older diesels

Hello from a new forum member. We just ordered a Grandby with a good deal of options added. Very excited. Our existing truck is a half ton Ford with gas engine and we are thinking down the road of going to a used GM diesel. The natural tendency is to buy the newest / lowest mileage truck you...

Firestone Destination AT have been good for me, on a second set. Highly rated on Tire Rack, bought mine locally. Low noise, decent life, not sure about snow as I don't do much of that.

Alaskan Cab over FS in TX

I just bought a Lance camper from TexasRVoutlet just West of Fort Worth and noticed they had an Alaskan on the lot. I got mine from these guys via Ebay but the Alaskan is not on Ebay yet. I think he said they wanted around $5500 but they really don't like truck campers and I bought mine for...

Feel free to make an offer, these are just sitting around I may need something like that. Just bought a bigger TC and am looking at Torklift front tie downs, not sure if I need the XL or not, how would I know? I would use these on each corner? My FWC has a simpler mount.

    Jacks, sliding front window ?

I hope I'm not too late . But I wouldn't order the the front opening window. Mine started leaking water right after the year warranty expired . I spend a lot of time out on the desert where it blows hard. I head my rig into wind if possible during these conditions. The wind whistles through that...
