    Low Cost Mods

Hello bimmeryota ... My ‘18 FWC has no screen door bars. Can you advise? The top bar looks like an easy grab to close from the inside, while as you mention, the lower bar serves to close from the outside. This mod looks “handy”. Would like to replicate, so any info appreciated.

Hot water heater - necessary or luxury?

For me, as both a permanent weight addition and decrease to internal storage, coupled with my desire to have a personal Shell build, plumbing a hot water heater was way problematic. So instead I option to carry more, or less, water. I purchased a solar shower/tank & subsidize it with hot water...

DIY video, Quick pitch Camper mounted Shower curtain, Slick! 4/24/20, my eventual solution

An externally mounted quick pitch type of shower/privacy curtain is hard to beat for ease & efficiency. It’s multipurpose use increases our FWC usability. Happy trails.

DIY video, Quick pitch Camper mounted Shower curtain, Slick! 4/24/20, my eventual solution

Forward from last June 2019 to present, I purchased a Zero Declination drop down shower curtain. Current price is $279 if you include the helpful, & custom made, FWC install hardware. I got to use it once, DVNP in February, before Covid “shelter in place”. Here is the Zero Declination FB site...

Grandby Shell build, it takes a Village, a bit more install info, Zero Declination drop down shower

This Shelter at Home has halted everything. Used it in DVNP & Alabama Hills in February for the first time. It was great to take a shower. Though, my solar shower did not heat up sufficiently during the daytime with such cold nights, Alabama Hills was a pretty crisp shower. Yes, also a good...

    Redwoods! - March 2020

Oh Lord, Stuck in Alameda County again. Dispersed riparian scene in the backyard, a little bit of this & that mixed together, a lone Redwood stands tall. Trying to emulate it’s steadfast nature, not my inner stir crazy. Nice report, thanks.

    Thermostat "upgrade"?

What vintage FWC, what heater brand(s) was compatible? Looks like a nice simple unit. My “newer” FWC Atwood did not gel well with digital units from Honeywell or Emerson. I did not try LuxPro. Would really enjoy digital choices for therm temp setting.

    Thermostat "upgrade"?

Aussiedor ... My 2018 Grandby Shell came with a very simple analog, manual therm, 50-90F, the slider was the on/off. I wanted a lower temp option than 50F. I tried 3 different very basic digital units. They all failed miserably causing the heater to cycle erratically. I inquired at a FWC...

    F-150 on order!

Depending on how much off road you do, & what kind, (obviously w/o your Ranger) consider trading in your C tires with your dealer for E rated, same size. I have basically the exact version w/Grandby you are getting. I kicked myself a bit after my purchase. I had wanted to trade upfront & whiffed...

Feb 2020 Red Rock Canyon, Alabama Hills, DVNP

Had to add two young off road enthusiasts after a full morning plus lunch time hike. Taking a snooze in a vintage Aristocrat recently restored. It was really a pleasure with such great weather.

Feb 2020 Red Rock Canyon, Alabama Hills, DVNP

DVNP weather was great. We just missed the wind. Appreciated getting ideas from previous post recommendations. Between Bill & Ski blog posts, I will only add a pic as we came down from our camp off Echo Canyon early one morning. Nice view stop for a cup of coffee & a bagel.

Feb 2020 Red Rock Canyon, Alabama Hills, DVNP

Alabama Hills visit was our first overnight here. Alarming lack of snow. Made the mistake of picking a 3 day weekend, (will be more aware) but we had the opportunity to meet up with our oldest son & his family. Got lucky with getting 2 pretty nice spots with view, even with the extra Holiday...

Feb 2020 Red Rock Canyon, Alabama Hills, DVNP

Red Rock Canyon SP was a nice stopover on a Monday night heading towards DVNP. Only a handful of campers, quiet. Downside is that the Hwy. is in view about 3.5 miles out. No road noise really, just the lights can be seen where you are camped up against the rock bluffs. Nice hike in the morning...

Inflation, Deflation, Viair 300p,400p vs ?, Staun, ARB vs ? Any info appreciated.

My tires are 275/65 r18, so 32”. I want a portable unit, I think the 300p should do it. The service dept. at Viair was encouraging the 400p with the auto compressor upgrade. That would be a nice addition but it runs more than the basic 400p & ~1/3 more than the 300p in price. Can anyone...

Need Tire help ... GY UT pic, E-rated, ok 4 all ages ... Yoko Geo X-AT vs Gy Wr UT-AT vs ?

A wrap up to my purchase ... After agonizing, I took a leap with the GY Wrangler Ultra Terrain. The tread is between the Yoko Geo AT & the Geo X-AT. It looks to me that GY uses the same pattern for most all their AT tires, simply dialing up or down the aggressiveness of the tread. So, in a...

    Vic's new 2012 Puma build

Impressive Vic. My 2 cents would be to leave it natural, light Maple. Where is your h20 tank? Is that a glass sink or stove? How deep are the cabinets up front? That is unique. Nice uplifting top. Are u planning a table? At DVNP, trading FWC thoughts, I saw automatic garage door foam used as...

Tagging on to Bill’s recent DV post we will be visiting next week. We have not had the pleasure since, as an early married couple, before settling down with children. Fantastic Fan variable speed control

Quick heads up/caution ... With my front vent I had to order a fan & other material to install. Decided I liked having a rear fan. Not much draw. The front vent was more problematic than the rear vent. The rear was just about altering the already installed FWC 3spd fan. The front went pretty...

Mounting Victron 100/20a Solar Charge Controller in Fleet Shell

I have two 120W commodity flex panels on the roof run in parallel. My two batteries are run in parallel. I would suggest the 100/20. It’s nice to be able to add, & have options, if need be. Yes, as Vic says below, more is better. My Grandby Shell cabinet was tight but doable.
