    Question - Trash management

Craig, thanks for the good article. I gather bears are figuring out how to open "bear-proof" garbage bins and I've seen video footage of at least 2 instances of them opening doors to pickups. In one instance it was particularly unfortunate because Bruin couldn't figure out how to open the door...

    Question - Trash management

One of the things I've long wondered about was whether bears have a different concept of food than we do. I suspect they do. I've always been careful about keeping food out of tents, etc., but one day I realised that my boots were waterproofed with a mixture of goose grease and...

Bear spray is a Good Idea. If you're carrying pepper spray don't announce it at the border. It's legality seems to be uncertain.

Finally found the leucistic wild turkey on the American River when I had my camera with me. Not perhaps the best photo, but I'm kinda pleased with the bird...[/url]Untitled by liz bredberg, on Flickr

Re cellphones. I think the best deal seems to be prepaid with Speakout, available at Seven-Eleven Markets. There still won't be coverage in a lot of Newfoundland, but it looks like the maritimes are fairly well covered. If it works with your existing phone you can just get a SIM card for $10...

    cast iron: avoiding rust

I think it depends somewhat on the humidity in and around the camper. My dutch oven, which I routinely wiped out with veggie oil and paper towel has travelled with me everywhere and only rusted in soggy, hot Brisbane Oz. But EVERYTHING rusted there. I think I did.

    Yoho CNP Iceline Trail

??? I just checked the Parks Canada website. Park Entrance fee is $C 9.80 per day or $C67 for a year. Or less at the reduced geezer rate. Given the pathetic exchange rate just now, really not too bad for Yank visitors. http://www.pc.gc.ca/apps/tarifs-fees/tarif-fee_E.asp?park=1 And note...

I need to hear a good new joke

Oh dang! What really causes me to blush is when I hear "monadnocks rising above the peneplain" :P That's really funny.

As ever, lovely report. Thanks. Used to spend quite a bit of time down in the Morro Bay area years back, when my aunt and uncle lived in Santa Maria.

    Quick Bodega Bay trip

That would have been me in the FWC/ATC camper. I'd love to think that Dillon will improve, but I am growing to appreciate Bodega Dunes, especially in windy weather. I'd spent two nights out on Doran Park -- an endorsement of the weather resistance of the camper, but had for some kinda complex...
