RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Blown airbag

Tens of thousands of people run air bags off-road without problems. I installed a set on one of my pickups in the late 1980s, and they are still going strong. Instead of questioning the value of airbags, you should probably be questioning the quality of the installation.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West $500 to $600 camper fridge?

I have an Edgestar (Whynter) that has been running almost continually for the last 12 years, either on the road or at home. It has been 100% reliable without a single glitch. I also have an Iceco VL60 dual, that is great and built like a tank, and an Alpicool C30. Both are nicely made and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Beware fake NATO fuel cans

I've been preaching the gospel of NATO cans (and using them) for decades. Some of my cans are around 70 years old. Obviously built to last. I don't buy the argument for the new Scepter cans being better. As for the Chinese fakes, a couple of years ago this guy did a great video comparing a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West NATO fuel cans

Sorry to hear they're all gone, but I'm pleased some of our members here were able to score some nice cans. Opportunities like this don't happen often. A couple of people mentioned gaskets, and since these cans are about 70 years old, it's probably not a bad idea to put new seals on them. But...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West NATO fuel cans

It depends on how many you order, where you live, and what shipping method you choose. I ordered 14 cans. They came in five boxes and shipping was $96.91. Each box is large enough to hold 3 cans. If I had ordered 16 cans, shipping jumped to almost $150. You'll just have to play with your...

Yes, they are standard NATO/Wavian/Valpro cans.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West NATO fuel cans

For those of us who prefer the steel fuel cans over the plastic ones, it can induce sticker shock when you look at the Valpro/Wavian cans. And surplus NATO cans have been very scarce for a number of years now. I recently found a surplus dealer that has genuine NATO fuel cans. Apparently a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 5 Gal/20 L gas can

Another vote here for NATO cans. I have a pile of them I bought about 20 years ago. Most were decades old and well used when I got them, but still perfectly functional. Some have German markings and some have Croatian, and the newest are now about 30 years old. I have never had one leak...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Whynter fridges?

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll give you my input. I have an Edgestar branded Whynter that I bought in June 2009. It has been in almost continuous operation since then, either in my truck when overlanding, or in the house as a spare freezer. It has never missed a beat. I wish I...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West AC Unit for Campers

The Cool My Camper units are nothing more than what's called a mini-split A/C. They're readily available in the U.S. made by other companies. They're available from both Home Depot and Lowe's and can be installed by a DIYer. Here's a video of one installed on a small travel trailer, and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Norcold refrigeratir

As it's heating up do you hear any gurgling coming from the cooling unit? Do you see any areas on the cooling unit that appear to have a yellow stain? Either one would indicate cooling unit failure. Turning it upside down is fruitless if the unit has failed. It's a lot cheaper to replace...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Atwood? fridge no longer working

You should also periodically clean the flue above the burner. Over time it builds up an internal layer of rust that acts as insulation. What you may find when you disassemble the burner is that it is full of rust scale that has dropped out of the flue over the last few years.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West post a *PIC* of your latest purchase (can be anything as long as it is for your camper)

It isn't really "for" my camper, it IS my camper. I found it not far from where I live and it followed me home. It's getting new hubs to match the 5x5.5" pattern of my Scout, and some new tires. It needs paint, but I haven't decided what color yet. Purple with yellow polka dots crossed my mind.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West adding battery

Do you think there will be a problem for the alternator to keep up with 3 batteries. No.  It makes no difference how many batteries it has to keep charged.  The alternator only has to provide the amount of energy that you are using.  As long as the demand does not exceed the output of the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Propane Tank Full?

You can not top off the new style tanks per the old propane dealer in town. You need a "new" propane dealer, because the "old" one obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. OPD equipped tanks can be topped up just as easily as old tanks. I have done it MANY times at many different...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Power Roof Vent question

Thanks, looks like a case of you get what you pay for. I think I'll hold out. That is precisely the case. I have a travel trailer with a FF in the living area and the cheapo fan in the bathroom. There is no comparison in either noise or performance. The FF moves a lot of air and is adjustable...

It's 4'x6', and 3/4" thick. Made from recycled tires. Cost is about the same as the thinner custom fits, but this is twice as thick and should cover the footprint of the camper pretty well. Shipping is the killer - $32. The mat weighs 100 lbs. What you have found is a standard horse stall...
