RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 3-way Dometic exterior fridge fan constantly running

Hello WTW! It's been a while. My wife and I are currently in Southern Ecuador and we have a question for those of you familiar with 3-way refrigerators... first off: it appears to be running normal. Both AC and propane keep the contents cool as needed. The problem is that it appears to be...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West My Top 4 Camp Spots in Baja

As you probably know, my fiancee and I are traveling along the PanAm south during 2011. This board was instrumental in my pre-trip preparations. I thought I would repay with my experience from the road. To summarize Baja was outstanding (and cheap!). I'm only 2 months into a 12 month trip...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Toyota Tundra overdrive with a truck camper

I would say that if the truck is staying in overdrive, it would be fine to leave it there. But if it is shifting in and out, then it would be best to take it out of overdrive. Thanks for all of the advice. Per usual, very helpful. I will probably adopt Hadley's method here.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Toyota Tundra overdrive with a truck camper

This last week we took a 1,000 mile shake-down trip to Bend Oregon, camping overnight in Mt Shasta in sub freezing temps. We were comfortable and everything worked great. Tracking the MPG we got 12 mpg with the overdrive off (driving about 60 mph) and 14 mpg with the overdrive on (thanks to...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Cheap Jerrycan mounting option

Well considering what you have already done replace the eye bolts with threaded rod...grab some aluminum bar stock and as best you can make two bars that cradle the can and slide onto the threaded rod. If you can't shape it no big deal just use flat stock. use wing nuts to tighten the flat bar...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Cheap Jerrycan mounting option

Is that jerry can hard mounted and we just can't see it? Am I missing something? If not you are going to be in for a world of hurt....its going to bounce up and down and move side to side causing you all kinds of problems with abrasion on your back wall Sorry if I am being presumptuous and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Cheap Jerrycan mounting option

Today I installed a Jerrycan mount. After doing much research, I determined that all of the existing Jerrycan mounts on the market are much to expensive for my taste. I wanted to leave my tailgate on for various reasons (including this) so I dreamed this up. It cost less than $20 at Home Depot...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West OT: Palomino thoughts

I picked up a never-slept-in 2007 Bronco 800 for $5k and am just settling in with it. So far so good, but I probably wouldn't pay $10k for a new one. They seem to be geared for a nightly plug-in type weekend traveler. If that's your guy, it's the perfect camper. The height is generous...

Gents, I realize most of you peruse ExPo in which I originally posted this listing. I'll throw it up here for reference for the searchers. A listing of modifications and maintenance to be made to a Palomino Bronco 800, or any wood framed camper for overland travel: 1. Jerrycan & mount on...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Camper Battery Selection

Thanks again Pods. I talked to Tech Support at Morningstar and it appears the alternator voltage is to low to work with the controller. "The 13.5V supply from the alternator is too low of an input voltage for any of our controllers to regulate because they use 14V-15V Bulk regulation set points."

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Choosing a Multimeter

I walked into Home Depot and picked up the cheapest multimeter I could find. It works wonders for voltage readings but the amp range is only 200mA, useless for me. After finding this, I walked down to Radio Shack to find something in the 30 amp range, but they didn't have anything over 10A...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Aftermarket Battery Monitor

Well, now that I have the battery type and charge figured out, it's time to figure out how to monitor. While I do plan to carry a multimeter, I would like to have something hard wired in for regular monitoring. I've seen some elaborate monitoring systems, but I just want a battery level...

Cannot thank you enough pods8. I plan on running some tests and going with your approach #1 if I'm getting the amps off the 7 pin that I expect (10-20amps). I will keep everybody updated in a separate post for others who are looking to charge from the truck.

I'm running a powerstream http://www.powerstream.com/DC-input-chargers.htm PST-BC1212-15 charger, as mentioned the 7.5amps might be smaller than what some would desire but it works for me. Actually something like this would likely work well off the 7pin since its not a huge amp draw and it'll...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Camper Battery Selection

I run a 7.5amp DC/DC charge that does a charge profile from a 10-15VDC input thus it makes up for line losses as well (I can look up the numbers later if you care) that is more inline with what my batteries like. I do not use a separator as the charger has a remote input that I've tied into an...

You might want to check the charging characteristics of your inverter/charger before relying on it with a new battery. In my limited experience, they are not very well suited to charging and shorten battery life. Not much point in buying a great battery and then trashing it with a cheap...
