RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Ultimate Solar Thread

Brett, I found a ton of information about how the controllers work and how the watts and volts and amps work on the Northern Ariazona wind and sun website. There are pages and pages to read to get a good understanding of everything.

Seems like all the "kits" (even the one from FWC) comes with the PWM controller. I know the MPPT is supposed to be the best... To buy the panel and the controller would be around $400-$500 then you would need the mounting stuff and wiring (minor). I guess it is important to do it right, and I...

I don't know much about the panels themselves. I am looking at a BP 80 watt (or maybe 85, can't remember) with a morningstar sunsaver controller. From what I understand, the controller is VERY important. (getting a good one) I have been looking at the kits on mrsolar.com

What are you running with the battery? Are you wired for the battery to charge from the truck while driving?

That is the amps per hour the solar will produce in IDEAL conditions. As we know, conditions are not always ideal. Also take into account the voltage loss between the panel and the controller (depending on the distance they are from each other) and you'll be glad you have the 14 amps cushion...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Pass thru boot question

Nope My Tundra window is a slide window (like the slide one on camper) It's just that the camper window does not line up with the truck window. It sits about 2 inches higher. Will the boot still work? Would I get accordian or compression??

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Airbag spacer?

I think I worded that wrong... The upper bracket only had the top 2 holes reaching the frame. Firestone said I needed some sort of "spacer" to lift the airbag so all 4 holes on the upper mounting bracket reach the frame... The photos and directions are slightly confusing... Especially when...

Skeeter, Thanks so much for the info. I have a Optima blue top in the camper. I think it is 115 amp. I was looking at a 65 watt BP panel (cause it fits perfectly) and if needed I can add a 15 watt to the mix. I will look into the charger.. Appreciate all the info.

Hi, Getting everything on the camper ready for a cross country trip and plan on getting a solar panel. I am pretty sure a 65 watt panel will be all I need to power an Engel, house lites, and the occasional laptop. My main question is.... in all my research, I am finding so many different...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Which 12V fridges fit in the icebox hole?

So I just spoke with Engel and they said that with their new mountable front open fridge/freezer , you do not need to leave 2 inches for venting around compressor. Not sure I totally believe them, but can always cut a vent out by the sink. Anyways, go figure that living in Florida has its...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Which 12V fridges fit in the icebox hole?

I have been looking for the same thing. Since I have a HAwk, the MT45 was gonna be a bit of a pain to find a space for. I see that Engel started making front opening fridge/freezers that would mount in the icebox hole. The SB 70 (12V only) will fit in the ice box space of a Hawk(2002) almost...

I'm glad your looking helped too!! What are the chances you are out west and can't find your "dream" camper, but I am in Florida and found mine!?!?!?! I didn't get the steal of the century, but I got a fair price for a barely used camper. It saved me at least $10,000 from getting a new one...
