RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC battery low on arrival

If you put in a manual switch, be sure that it can't switch your truck battery off from the truck's charging system while the engine is running or you may do damage to alternator/voltage regulator. Although a disconnect was found in this situation keep in mind that sometimes, plugging a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ATC FWC opening mechanism

Ben, I was reading on another TC group that many run their roof fan on exhaust, with door closed, to pull in the sides while lowering the top. Would this help or hinder with an ATC/FWC? Ben, disregard the question as some of the guys have answered it (not much help, if any) on the concurrent...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ATC FWC opening mechanism

You still have to go outside and push in the corners of the liner as you latch the top down. Everyone should do this. If you push in the corners every time you will not get the wear spots that are so common on the corners of the liner. Ben, I was reading on another TC group that many run their...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Fantastic Fan retrofit

Just reading a thread on the TC Forum at RV.NET about tucking in pop-up campers and a number of posters mentioned turning on the vent fan, closing the door and letting the fan suck in the sides as the roof is lowered.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Fantastic Fan retrofit

Like almost every project I take on, it looks like it will be easy, but usually it requires an extra visit to the hardware store, or more time than I currently have. Back in The Old Days, stores weren't open on Sundays in a lot of places, so the Rule of Thumb in my neighborhood was to never...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Going Greener (It's not easy being green!)

When my brother was responsible for maintenance of a company's small fleet of vehicles, among his other engineering responsibilities, they had the oil sent off for testing (they were using a commercial version of Mobil One). Those are about the same intervals he came up with based on the tests...

We installed the fan in our new Eagle, and we're happy with it and have used it. One note however: Thanks to the fan, I can't get the camper into my garage. It just barely won't clear. So now I park in the public parking area, in violation of the community covenants. Thus far the neighbors have...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Heater Operation

Something that's come up recently on other RV groups is that with the new OPD valves on the LP tanks, if some are turned on too rapidly, the valve thinks it has a open, overflow, condition and shuts itself off (a friend of mine has exactly this problem on a BBQ grill). If all else fails, try...

Here's a site with info on the Chevy V8 BBQ. I think the temp gauge on the thermostat housing and the bow tie on the grill were good touches. Here's another idea for a grill:

This kind not only tells you in detail what's wrong, but is good for GFCI outlet testing. Most RVers carry something like this to check that the shore power is correct before plugging in. Find them at DIY stores, Wally, etc.

I take it Airbags make suspension adjustable... are they pricey?? Air bag springs are indeed adjustable by changing the pressures, and by keeping them on separate air lines, they are adjustable from side-to-side to adjust for asymmetrical camper weight, fuel in tank, etc. You can even set them...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Refrigerator not working

If it works in ANY mode, then it is not a refrigeration cycle failure, but a mode failure. If it won't work in any mode, and esp if you can smell ammonia, that's bad.... If it just won't work in LP mode, the most common problem is that the burner tube has insect debris in it; blow it out or...

Some kind of fan is needed for hot weather, to move cool air in and to move hot, humid cooking air out. That said, however, it doesn't need to be a roof vent fan. Fantastical fan also makes a good stand-alone 12VDC fan, called Endless Breeze, that can also be used outside or where ever. Folks...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How Level for the fridge?

One way that would work is to get the reefer bottom shelf level all the way around with the TC on the truck and then mount the level in the cab so it is level. Presuming the load isn't changed much (or the air bags changed), then you can adjust when first parking. Travel trailer folks do...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Single Battery

Sounds like the optima would work. If your moving that much though, I really don't think you will have a problem with the truck battery. I noticed that you said you do have a charger in case there is a problem. Personally I would give it a try and see how it works before I spent the money on...

My understanding is that one reason the synthetics are called that is because they are not made from dinosaur or minerals, but from replaceable plant material, so that's really green right there. Hmm, I'm still confused about the syn oils. Apparently there's still dinosaur stuf in there, but...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How Level for the fridge?

Although the newer reefers are rigged to work more off-level than the older ones, the more level the better. Off-level damage is cumulative (buildup of scale inside) so it pays to be a bit anal about this.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Awning: Yes or No?

I believe Fiamma and A&E are the same awning with perhaps a different price. They use the same parts. Different models have different degrees of set-up difficulty, but one of the A&Es is very easy for one person to set up. Unfortunately I can't recall the model name :(
