RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat

I had the same problem with my Honeywell digital thermostat not working properly below 40 deg. Fan would come on but wouldn't ignite the burner. I called Honywell and they told me they are not designed to work below 40 deg. I have gone back to my mech style and I now have heat when it is in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thought you all might like this video of our rig

Awsome video Mike. Were you going "over" east to west? or west to east? Haven't done this trip for about 5 years, how was the Goler Wash "water fall"? Going east to west (stripe butte to balarat). Once you get to the turn off for Barker ranch, it has been graded all the way down. Easy stuff...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Registering your pickup as "PM" or noncommercial in Ca. to save weight fee?

I was going to do this as well since our camper in on 99% of the time but decided not to for that 1% if I need to pull the camper off for work on it or the truck. It is a BIG fine if you get caught, way more than what the yearly cost would be.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby eyebolt repair

Yeah, the link Stan posted was my rig that I fixed from pulling the original bolts through. I am VERY happy to say, the fix I did (1/4" aluminum plate, adhesive, washers and grade 8 bolts) has held up great. We have done hundreds of miles of washboard trails and so fairly good rock crawling. I...

Yep, Dave and I have a lot of experience spotting, so I trust him 100%. Normally I can pick lines very well, as I did this same pass in our Cherokee TOWING a Kamparoo tent trailer behind me, without any spotting. Just walked up it. Problem with the Dodge is it's so much bigger and you can't see...

Yeah, we came in to Saline Valley from the north, over Lippencott pass, down to Warm Springs and camped at Stripe Butte, then over Mengal Pass. It was a fun trip!

This video was taken of our rig going over Mengal Pass in Death Valley. :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat

I might buy into that answer outside of the fact that I have had zero problems when it was the orignal Suburban mechanical t-stat. We used it in much colder weather than this past weekend (which really only got into the mid 40's. Heat was nice but not really needed). I also always fire up the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat

Okay, just got back from a 4 day trip in Death Valley. Had a great trip!!! Thoughts on the t-stat. It definitely had a much better control on temps. It would come on at 1 degree below the set temp and turn off at about 2 degrees over the set temp (I have another thermometer inside). Much better...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat

Based on this review, I ordered one and installed it this weekend. About 15 minutes or so to do. I tested to make sure it turned on/off the heater which it did. Will be testing it in the field this coming weekend in Death Valley. Bringing the old one, just in case. :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anybody pack "heat". . .

Keeping in mind, not everyone lives away from the border. Here in SoCal, many trips are within a few miles of the border and there is a lot of drug running and illegal migration that happens. We have had Border Patrol agents shot and killed along these areas. I rather give myself a fighting...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anybody pack "heat". . .

I always keep in mind, there is no 911 in the middle of nowhere. We typically camp WAY off grid and even if I had cell coverage, it would take hours for any help to show up. There is an old saying my dad always told me, "it's better to be judged by twelve, than carried by six". Words to live by...

I believe in the "I rather have it and never need it then need it and not have it".

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Older camper newer truck

Not sure about Ford trucks but I think Dodge and GM ones, the tailgate width opening was too narrow for older campers. They won't fit between the opening of the bed sides.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My Eagle gets a new door

Nicely done. Looks great. Interesting to see the new style door opening in much smaller than the older style. I don't think I would want it any smaller than what I currently have.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wire shorts at the front lift panel

I have to agree, not sure why household style wiring is used outside of it's likely cheaper and easier to route. It is definitely not designed for vibration or flex. If it wasn't such a huge project, I would like to rewire the whole camper with correct automotive wire. Thanks for the heads...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacement of CCI propane and CO detectors?

Okay, got it installed yesterday. Yes it does fit the CCI cutout (which was cut a little oversize and this new unit is a little smaller) but the mounting holes are about a 3/16" narrower. I was able to use one screw hole but the other one I had to put "outside" of the flange and let the head...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacement of CCI propane and CO detectors?

Based on what I research the Safe-T Alert series Models 35-742 are supposed to fit CCI 7700 series propane units. The STA 35-742 models are both propane and CO detectors in one unit. No one seems to make the seperate units that fit the existing CCI cutouts so I am going to do like Marty...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacement of CCI propane and CO detectors?

Thanks for the info Marty. Actually it looks like Safe T Alert has a model that is a direct fit for the 7700 series units. I am fairly sure that's what mine is but I need to double check this weekend.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacement of CCI propane and CO detectors?

Hi all, hoping someone will have a good answer. I have been having some issues with false alarms on our CCI propane detector. This past weekend, with the camper vented we would get an alarm every few minutes though no smell of propane is present. In the past we would get an alarm when...

Just an FYI, the Mountain Rendezvous, hosted by a member over on ExPo, is set for the first weekend of Oct. Last year had a lot of FWC people attending that were local, so you might do the second or third weekend of Oct. We can likely make a later Oct. date but the first weekend we will be at...
