RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking at my first camper

This site is very pro pop-up so I'm thinking most opinions will fall that way. Like mine. A Hawk won't need any alteration like air bags to your 3/4 ton truck so that's a benefit from the start. If your parents are reasonably able, the EW sleeping shouldn't be too much of a problem in the middle...

Seems the only sure way to protect yourself from this type of attack is to avoid wearing underwear thus disarming your attacker. Of course you have to be a lot more careful with pants zippers lest you dis- ah... ah... er.. yourself. Alan

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk Options - Now vs Later?

Great looking rig. For carpeting we are using an old set of bathmats - rubber on the bottom and carpet on top. If you and the Mrs are sleeping above and the little one below, consider opening the corner of the window near your head for a little fresh air and condensation removal. A little...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removal and Storage of Hawk

Short of using a external jack system (like a forklift), I don't see another safe way of lowering the camper than the 2 -3 inches per jack at a time method. Your sawhorses / plywood system with the jacks as backup is pretty much what I do with my homemade dolly. I just have wheels on the bottom...

We take art supplies (drawing and watercolor) in a sturdy toolbox the wife stands on to bring the Hawk's counters down to elbow level. We also take a hollow plastic Spiderman ball about the size of a soft ball to play fetch with the ocean. Really thinking about a tandem kayak for next Summer. Alan

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cheap, easy fix for a difficult, expensive problem

I tend to agree but simply replacing the entire PVC structure with1/2" galvanized pipe and fittings would still be pretty cheap and super strong. Alan

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Delayed TR - Babymoon

If you don't go too far away, you could take the truck and the car with the car seat. You could set up for a week by a lake or beach and use the car for transport to trail heads or to get more diapers and beer (if you have too much of the later, be sure you have enough of the former for yourself...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shell vs Loaded?

Went through this calculation a couple of months back but had the luxury of not having a pickup yet. Weight of shell vs larded up Hawk, determined whether we got 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck. We decided on lard and 3/4 ton as our idea of keeping it simple is not having to move things around and set up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk Options - Now vs Later?

It always comes down to lifestyle choices because we all want the same things: water, heat, cold box, storage, light, cool breezes, shelter and a certain amount of style. You build them into the rig via the options, carry them along inside, bolt them on the outside or just do without. You asked...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk Options - Now vs Later?

We took delivery of our Hawk just before Labor Day and then hit the road for two weeks. We put in a change order to extend the roof tracks from 6 feet to the full length of the camper after reading about someone who added solar to the top of their rig using the tracks. In addition to the tracks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Proud New Owner 2002 Eagle

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum. We decided on a fridge because it is a lot simpler to have cold automatically in a box instead of having to buy it every few days. Question: why tint the camper windows? Alan

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shipping/Transporting FWC

Here's a wild idea: Assuming you have a pickup for the camper already, you either get it modified to add the eye bolts or figure out a way to strap the camper on the pickup for the journey back. Unless time is critical, you might as well add the eye bolts yourself or take the truck to FWC and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jacks

When the camper goes on the truck, the jacks come off and get stored on the dolly with the tailgate. I have a plan for using the jack brackets to support a shower enclosure on the driver's side (where the shower hose comes out of course) and the jacks would preclude using it. Those sturdy...
