RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grizzlies and elk bowhunters meet in Montana

The Teepee Creek area had been closed late August due to high numbers of bears in the area.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Custom winter insulation that works great

Excellent! Can you close the top with it attached? I imagine there's still moisture, can't do much about that. Looks very nice and tight!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Install on Bobcat, Need Help.

I think you are right about two wires. When poking through the ceiling, do you run the tubing through the ceiling fabric? How do you keep the ceiling fabric from tearing more over time? I was thinking of running clear super tape on either side of the hole. Just cut a hole in the fabric?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Install on Bobcat, Need Help.

I finally got around to doing the tentative final install. Rather than drill a hole in the roof, I though I would try the ATC one wire method, grounding the panel to the roof and the controller to the truck body, which according to the controller lights looks like it's working. The charging...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Install on Bobcat, Need Help.

Well, it does work using the wire installed by ATC and grounding the panel to the roof. I was only grounding the panel, using the grounding hole on the panel itself. When I used the negative wire it works fine. I can ground to the roof rack. Run a wire from the controller negative slot for the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Install on Bobcat, Need Help.

Wildlife, thinking about what you said, I took the negative wire from the panel, the negative wire from the controller, and touched them both to the window, and it worked! So, in theory if I ground the panel to the camper (not the roof) it should work.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Install on Bobcat, Need Help.

Wildlife, I really don't understand your question. I grounded the panel to the tubular roof rack, which I thought I really didn't need to do as it, being metal, was already sitting (via the z brackets) on the roof rack. Regardless, I attached a wire to the panel to the roof rack. Then I ran a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Install on Bobcat, Need Help.

I have a Bobcat that I purchased new from ATC in 2011. I had them install the wiring for a future solar install, which consisted of a single copper wire. I had often wondered what I was going to do with the negative wire. I recently purchased a 100 watt panel and Wanderer controller from Renogy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Nissan Frontier 4x4

Since 1978 I've owned 6, and never had any problems. I now have a 2010 crew cab long bed with a 2011 Bobcat simply modified shell. I added an extra leaf and e rated tires. Although I have never had any problems, I've always felt it was a bit heavy for the truck, and feel braking could be an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Utah to Prince Rupert Canada and Back

In Montana, unless you want to make time, I would get off I-15 and drive along The Front on route 287/89 to Babb, MT, then decide how you want to enter Canada. You can drive excellent dirt roads along The Front, but that would take lots of time, however one I would consider is get off in Wolf...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping/Fishing near Big Hole, MT

Near Melrose, there's Maidenrock Campground. If you go to this campground, go beyond it, over the steep hill, and there are some nice sites at the bottom, along the river (not sure if these are part of the campground). Continue down the road for more dispersed sites and river access. In Melrose...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cooking Indoors with Outdoor Propane Stove

Regarding butane stoves, lots of negative information on google about lunchbox cookers in Australia. Not sure if that relates to the one I've used here, but makes one think if they are a wise option.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cooking Indoors with Outdoor Propane Stove

I have read lots of articles of how unsafe it is to cook inside a camper with an outside propane stove. There have been discussions here how one should use a butane (buffet) stove if not using an rv propane stove. In looking at the Milner camper on the Hallmark site, they show a partner stove...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Western Odyssey (very photo heavy)

Although it would add miles, I would consider driving Lamar Valley in Yellowstone, then as previously mentioned Beartooth Pass. Then rather the West side, drive along the East side (The Front), through Glacier. If you decide to do this contact me and I can give you some hikes/camping spots, back...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2011 ATC Bobcat Solar Prewire

I have a 2011 Bobcat that I had prewired for solar. Now that I want to add solar I'm a bit (lot) confused as to where to begin. From what I've read here, the wire is 10 awg, and the wire runs from the battery box to the roof, one wire. I see that the solar panels have two wire inputs (+.-)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removing Flexible Solar Panel

Attaching to a sheet of aluminum sounds like a good idea. I was thinking of making a rectangle out of tubular aluminum and screwing the panel to it, then attaching it to my roof racks (or maybe just L clips) such that it could be angled to the sun as needed, or not. The wiring would be contained...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pricing between FWC and ATC

I have an ATC Bobcat, and from the beginning have found the bed cushions comfortable and durable (5 years). From the complaints I have read here, and from what I have seen at trade shows the FWC cushions are a bit too hard for my liking.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Tank Location Outside Camper

I've been thinking of relocating my propane tank, attaching it to the rear outside wall of the camper, freeing up the space inside the camper. Are there any reasons for not doing this. Safety, cold weather performance, theft? Thanks for your help.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heater Options...Propex etc.

I've thought about installing the HS2211 Propex outside, between the camper and truck bed wall. The documentation says 1.7 amps. If it would fit (18" x 9" x 5"), it would be a good use of space, and eliminate any venting concerns. Hook up the propane as needed (as I do my catalytic heater), and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ID-MT-WY?: Desert Rat Venturing Outside His Comfort Zone Seeks Input

At the base of the switchbacks, take Rock Creek road to the end, hike up to Glacier Lake (few hours), nice camping spots along the way. Map says road 2421, google earth says 421. Snow may (probably) be an issue. A couple roads before Rock Creek, the Lake Fork road (no camping) takes you to a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar without drilling any holes

Looks, good. I like that it's flush with the roof, for tree branches etc. I've read that not having a space underneath diminishes efficiency somewhat, but this looks like a good tradeoff. I saw Homedepot has 100w panels that are 20" by 40", and weigh 6 pounds! How did you glue them down?

You mention adding dehydrated vegetables to stir fries. Do you need to rehydrate first, or do you just add a bit of water while cooking? Looking at the product it says to add 2 parts water and cook for 15 minutes.
