RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What does everyone use for camper steps?

Plus 1 on the Little Giant Three Step. Followed another campers instructions for removing the bars surrounding the top. Used a reciprocating saw to remove. Works great and is very stable. A bit heavy so we only use it when we have our Stowaway2 Hitch rack that will swing out of the way.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby/F-150 is home!

Our Base Model Tradesman Ram 1500 Regular Cab and Grandby. So easy to fit in campgrounds but we do miss the extra space that an extended cab would give us. We also run Firestone Air Bags and 10 ply Cooper STT Pro tires.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper batteries drop when truck is running

Thank you Klahanie, great info and that does make sense. Many years ago we had a 24 battery string at work and they asked me to check the batteries voltages with a VOM weekly. I always checked the batteries and they read 2.25 volts which was perfect for this -48V plant. However when we had...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper batteries drop when truck is running

Once again thank you all for your input. I am still learning. I noticed Iowahiker mentioned the following: - Full voltage not at rest (charging stopped), 13.0-13.3 - Full voltage at rest (no discharge), 12.8-13.0 I would have thought that a battery NOT at rest (meaning it's under load) and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper batteries drop when truck is running

Thank you Rando and PaulT for the comments. I guess I do need to understand the difference between the voltages when under load and resting. I am just so used to always seeing that 13.8 on my display. I thought my MPPT Controller display was my battery monitor but it sounds like I either I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper batteries drop when truck is running

We took our first extended trip with the Grandby this July for 10 days. Before we left I checked a few of the recommendatinons that others have listed above. I found that our trucks charging system was providing the correct voltage to our FWC batteries (2 - 12V AGM 70ah) when the engine was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 7watt solar panel as trickle charger?

Related to this discussion. I noticed when I was testing with a 5 watt solar panel from Zamp and a medium sized motorcycle battery, that the solar panel would bring up the battery during full sunlight to about 12.9 volts but as soon as the sun went down, I could see the voltage dropping on the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Now the fun begins my new 78" Ocelot shell

A bit confused. Your post says you picked up in March 2019 and it was new but the signature tag says 2015?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West tire choices ?

Cooper STT PRO. Had my first set on a Tacoma Pre-Runner and now on my Ram 1500. Very happy with them. A bit of noise at 35 - 45 mph but not bad. A year old and not showing any wear yet.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How Things have Changed

As a Southern California driver, who like many, have very limited or no driving experience in snow or ice, I respect those that know and understand how to drive in these conditions. I plan my routes ahead of time, carry chains with even the possibility of snow and slow down and observe the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper batteries drop when truck is running

Sorry for not getting back to the forum on this. Regarding the master kill switch. Answer is twofold. When going camping, it is pushed in because our ARB fridge is then running off the batteries. When we just take it out for an hours drive, (aka not camping) then it is always pulled out...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper batteries drop when truck is running

I recently noticed the following. Ram Truck and 2018 Grandby camper sits in fog, gray skies and rain for a number of days. The solar panels (2 x 100 watt) don't quite keep the two AGM batteries floated in this weather. I take the truck out for a long drive, expecting the FWC installed wiring...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton, what are most people using for their FWC?

18 Grandby on a 1/2 ton 2017 Ram with a V6 (305 hp). Added Air bags and 10 ply All Terrain tires. I definitely know its back there but the truck drives great with the bags setup with the right amount psi for each side. Heading up long steep grades, I have no trouble maintaining 65+ all the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Grandby ordered

Nice you are already familiar with the FW campers. Back in the 90's for us it was little tents, took many years to graduate to a FWC. We love our Grandby. Have fun and be sure to post some pictures.
