RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Balmar SmartGauge battery monitor

This monitor looks very interesting. The installation is dead simple. The only down side is the lack of some features like amp draw. I had no idea the shunt type monitors were so difficult to "dial in"

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing a 12 volt outlet

I have a flex panel I want to put on my roof too but I'm scared I will want to remove it one day. I'm trying to think of a semi permanent way to mount it. Let me know what you come up with. I would have a trimetric already if I wasn't going back to school for my second career! 2 years and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

I wish you would have had a few more hours of driving. I have a feeling the charging rate would stay slowing down pretty quickly once the battery was at a higher state of charge and really needed the voltage. I would also like to know what voltage you are getting at your aux battery when your...

I would really like to see this too. I'm clueless as to what the "shunt" is.

I would try measuring the voltage output of each panel. If they are both good then you know is due to wiring. If not its something with the panel.

That's two people with new trimetrics on their fwcs. I'm so jealous. Have fun!!!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gotta love 3way refers... is it time to get DC?

That's a lot to fix a 3 way fridge. Go dc! The batteries are AM for that price. If you want to figure out hot to vent them, which I don't recommend, you can get two batteries for $200.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gotta love 3way refers... is it time to get DC?

I'm sure you can get the 3-way fridge fixed as I have heard there is nothing on them that isn't cheaply repaired......... BUT......... once you get a compressor fridge dialed in they are sweet! If the money thing is worrying you I will share my costs with you so you can get an accurate idea. -I...

It's incredible how "optimistic" that meter is. Thanks for the info.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flex in lifting panels

I agree. there seems to be a lot of pressure on the far corner to the point it looks like the wood is bent along with the hinge. You could always use some higher quality wire and replace just that segment. Then you shouldn't need the wire sheathing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Non-fused electrical circuits on Shell models

Isn't that circuit breaker between the separator and the battery? There would need to be another as the power leaves the battery and goes to accessories if that's the case.

That's a nice looking unit. Has a really low amp draw too.

That's incredible. Is that with the battery fully charged. What voltage do you have from the main battery?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

RC what size is your wiring and what are you getting off your truck battery? My voltage is 13.5 at the truck battery and 12.5-9 at the aux depending on if the refer is running or not and the state of charge of my aux battery. Is that number with a fully charged battery?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

I'm guessing closer to the 80% but I'm pessimistic at times. Do you think you can also tell me what voltage you get at your aux battery with the truck running, solar disconnected, fridge running and battery at 50% charge? This should give me an idea of your voltage drop compared to mine. Thanks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

That's the exact thing I have learned by adding a refrigerator to my camper. That's why I'd be so interested to see what the trimetric says about the charge it gets from an alternator. I drive a lot when I go on vacation so if the alternator is charging my batteries to 90% I'm OK with cycling...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

Mine does that too but the meter on our campers are very optimistic. At 12.5 my meter will say charged but that's not close to the 12.8 my battery sits at when charged with my iota/iq4. What's 12.5 like 80% charged?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

It would be really interesting! I have read in various places people stating anywhere from 80-100% charge is possible so it would be nice to know for certain. Im also thinking that those of us with the stock FWC wiring that it may be lower than we expect since it is 10 gauge wire and pretty...

What kind of charge controller do you have and how many volts is it sending to your battery? Also what size solar setup do you have? If you have enough solar to cover your needs with enough to charge your battery left over, then you may just need to change your charging voltage.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

DrJ- since you have solar you may not be able to answer but I was wondering if you can provide any numbers on how well your battery bank is charged with just the alternator. It may put out 30-50 amps as someone said on this thread however the voltage is usually quite low and takes a long time...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Is there a Best 12V Battery

I don't understand not having enough space. There is always a way and 2 golf cart batteries give so much more power than one group 27. I gave up the space in my hawk and I'm so glad I did it. I don't have to worry about power at all now.

Kodachrome- is there a special reason you use two charge controllers or did you just decide it was easier to add a second when you added more panels?
