RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1979 Granby

I've got one composite lift panel finished, and the second ready to put together today. The finish is aluminum although it looks white in the picture. I also have my window vinyl panels made to my satisfaction. Not perfect, but not sure if I could do better another time. I need to get the bulk...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY canvas side panels?

I finally got my window panels done to my satisfaction, and have a ? before I sew all the panels together. What did folks use for the bungee anchors on the fabric? My original panels seemed to have metal eye bolts. I was thinking about sewing a piece of nylon webbing to the panel. Would two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminum Roof Pitting & Disentagrating

Just a WAG, But electrolysis could be causing the problem. Using the roof structure as a ground for fans, lights, or solar power could be the culprit. Electric current and the dissimilar metals, aluminum skin and steel screws, will cause the problem. You may be able to use a meter and see if...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

I built one mock up exactly to the dimensions Marty gave me, to have an overall height of 25 5/16. But I didn't get the 1 inch offset I wanted. So I moved the center hinge up on the bottom panel 1/4 inch, and landed up with 26 inches in height. Keep in mind I'm not using factory hinges, so...

I got a couple mock up panels built and installed them today. They folded down properly. Granted I had no canvas sides yet, but hopefully that won't change how they fold. My top panel is 12 3/8 inches tall. The hinge barrel for the top and middle hinge is mounted tight to the edge of the panel...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bumped into jack, rippled siding

I'd say grab onto the jack and see if there's any movement, such as the screws pulled out and are loose in the framing. Obviously a loose jack needs repair. If it's tight in the framing, and with the rippled siding, the framing could be bent. You mentioned it's going to stay on the truck. With...

Home from a fishing trip and back at the build. Have 2 mock up lift panels ready to install. Made a rack to set the roof on while I install them, and will have my son help me lift the roof on tonight. Opened up the new vinyl material I ordered to make new side canvas, and it's a different shade...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West supporting camper

I have a different situation than most with a handicapped wife. My camper has to be down at a one step level for her to access it. So it comes on and off at each campsite. I have electric jacks, a support system under the floor, (it also provides the height I need for the cabover) and screw...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

The critical measurement I believe is the fold over distance. My roof is 114 inches between hinge rivet holes. The body rivet holes are 116 inches apart. If the panels were built with equal distance between the hinges, they wouldn't fold all the way down. You have to take into consideration that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

Marty an ATC very generously gave me some info on building the panels. AZ Nick is right on with the panel size measurements for a Keystone. The Hawk, Grandby, Blazer and Bronco panels a 1 inch taller at 12 3/8's and 21 3/4's. He gave me a length of 69 inches. He instructed me to mount the center...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Blast from the past - old face & 82' grandby

See my post in the camping and outdoor gear forum. This is Amazon Prime Day, and I picked up a $300 plus Fantastic fan for $210! Also I have a water tank out of my 79 Grandby you could have for the cost of shipping.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Amazon Prime Day

I've been waiting to buy a Fantastic Fan for my 79 Grandby build. I wanted the one with reverse, thermostat and rain sensor. They usually go $300 plus. Today with Prime day I bought one for $210! They have good buys on other models too! This is the model I bought...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

Dusty Roads who is selling a panel returned my text and is going to try and get the measurements I need. That's great news, because FWC wasn't any help. They said they couldn't give me the info as it's a patented product. They also said they don't have plans for the old campers, and if I wanted...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

A fellow has a panel for sale here on the board. I texted him and hoping he can give me a measurement. I replaced the nuts and screws on my prototype with rivets, and it now folds flat. Wanted to avoid doing that as I'll have to drill them out to reuse the hinges on my finish panels. I sent an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Ranger II

Probably an easy resale, not many FWC on the east coast. But finding a replacement on the east coast could prove difficult. That said. I'd sell it and get one that fits, even if you need to drive half way across the country.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Satelite antenna covered up by camper

They sell remote magnetic satellite antennas. The trick may be getting access to the port on the radio. It was easy on a Dodge I had, just removed the glove box. My 2016 Silverado, not so easy.

Hey Poky, Changing things up and laying off the sewing temporarily and starting to work on my lift panels. I may have mentioned it to you before, but the distance between the center of the roof hinge rivets is 114 inches, and the distance between the center of the body hinge rivets is 116...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Input needed - F150 Crewcab with a Flatbed?

Seeing how you already have the camper and the truck, get it to to a scale. First get the truck weight without the camper, then load it up and get the weight on each axle plus the gross weight. Now you will know for sure what you have, and if it's feasible to shed some pounds and rearrange...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Input needed - F150 Crewcab with a Flatbed?

As far as building out the camper, just about anything is possible. A concern for a crewcab, 5.5' bed truck is exceeding the rating on the rear axle. It's going to be carrying more weight than a standard cab or double cab. You will need to keep as much weight forward as possible.

Have a fishing trip to northern Ontario starting next week so I haven't been doing much with the camper. Still waiting on more material to redo the fabric sides. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow and it will have to wait for my return after the trip. Yesterday I visited with friends, and the wife...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

Poky, on your slide out for the bed, it looks like a 1x3 or 1x4 mounted to the outside edge. If my term is correct, did you "dato" the 1x so the plywood is in a groove? The original slide out on mine has an aluminum angle to stiffen it. I'm thinking a 1x3 or 1x4 with it dato'ed to accept the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 84 Fleet - 09 Tacoma - Project

That looks great! I need to order more material, twice what I need in case of another whoops. I'm going to shorten my windows and go with 2 on a side. I think your walking foot machine is definitely a plus to have.

Messing around this morning, ripping stitches out and trying to resew. Still puckering. I think I know the problem now. If you look at the pictures on the previous page, you will notice that there is some puckering at the top where I sewed in the velcro. This was my first window and came out...
