RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water Pump 2017 Hawk

You probably just have an air pocket. It happens to me when I let the tank run dry. After refilling the tank I may experience the problem you're having. I haven't researched a proper priming procedure I've just been opening sink faucets and/or the outdoor shower faucet to try and purge the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hypervent?

The HyperVent people address the difference between HyperVent and Hypervent Aire-Flow on the home page as you scroll down. I decided to use another product instead of HyperVent. The HyPUR-Flo product from Tochta has the same purpose at about the same price but is slightly thinner (1/2"...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Recovery boards

Hi Scott, tell me more about the GoTreads as levelers. I like the combo purpose and small storage footprint of that option. How have they held up? How long have you have you used them for levelers? Cheers, Dave

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water Pump

My pump started to exhibit this behavior when I ran the water tank dry. I believe this introduced air into the system. The pump was still a bit twitchy even after refilling the tank. I did some purging and it seemed to return to normal.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Converter

Also note that the IOTA 30 amp power converter only charges the auxiliary battery and provides pass-through access to 120VAC when connected to shore power. It will not invert DC battery power to AC when unplugged from shore power. If you're going to replace it I would consider a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Storage ideas for FWC

Nice job Bill! I have also marveled at the magnitude of wasted space in the Four Wheel drawer and cabinet design in my 2010 Hawk. You have what I am shooting for. Did you build these yourself or contract this out? Do you have drawings? Thank you, Dave

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What is your real live solar system performance?

Hello Rando, I just came across this thread while designing my auxiliary power system. Thank you for your awesome explanation of where the extra power comes from with an MPPT controller. Also, I've been looking at the 3% loss chart for wire sizes and then wondering how everyone is getting away...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West High winds, any problems?

Interesting. I've been in some really nasty winds in Death Valley with no problem - don't know the mph. My greatest fear was addressed in this discussion - forgetting to put the top down and driving off. From Day 1 I've taken one of the elastic bands for the top and wrapped it around the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Ordered, But Which Truck to get?

I went through the same thought process. I wanted a reliable Toyota base vehicle really bad. But my payload was well out of range so I had to face reality. Payload capacity is NOT just based on the suspension. The most overlooked limitation is the brake duty cycle. The brakes convert...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West camper batteries

If you want to get more than a few years of life from your auxiliary battery, it's very important that you fully charge the batteries before periods of non-use, even for a short time. Also, do not discharge more than 50% before charging again. These apply to any deep-cycle, lead-acid battery...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat Failure 2015 Hawk

I have a 2010 Hawk. I despised the analog thermostat that came with the camper (too hard to read the selected temperature and too much hysteresis in setting temperature). So I replaced it with a digital White Rodgers model 1F85-0422. This has a battery and the thermostat doesn't use any...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F250 cab clearance with Hawk

Hi Tom, I have a 1999 F-250 with a 2013 Hawk. I have a 3/8-inch rubber mat under my camper and that gives me 3-inches of clearance between the top of the cab and the bottom of the camper overhang at the center (more at the edges due to the radius of the cab roof). Three inches is plenty and I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar Panel Installation

VHB is amazingly strong ... but, I'd be worried that with the kinds of temperatures the roof will see that the adhesive or foam would eventually dry up and give way ... probably on the highway. Are you concerned? Dave

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West screws where they shouldn't be

Remove the screws and cut or grind them down by 1/8". Then seal hole on the outside with silicone caulking in your choice of colors. If you want the outside fix to look better than a plug of caulking you can find or create a plug using a screw head and push that into the calking in the hole.
