RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch light issue

We've had the same problem almost continuously. We found that dust enters the light and blocks the electrical flow. Contact Cleaner from an electronic supply store fixes the problem, until more dust enters and we have the problem again. I don't know if there is a good, final, answer.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 12 Volt connectors

The connector that sends 12 volt to my Dometic cooler has failed on me. Anyone have a line on some kind of 12 volt connector that is stronger and more durable than the cigarette lighter style unit I have? I'm talking military grade or better.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dark or Black Colored Campers

I don't know how it works with the campers, but I can say I did a test when we re-roofed our house and laid out a light grey and a black color sample of roof shingles. The black one was 20 degrees hotter.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West help with securing fridge

I attached my Dometic with a ratchet strap that hooks on to the existing cooler handles and passes under the cooler on a plywood platform the cooler rests on. Works great, never had a problem...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for advice - Getting old, no more tents!

My F150 is probably one of the least capable since it's only got a 2.7 engine, but it has been a great choice. Our Hawk fits perfectly, we top out at 6,350 lbs., and get 17 MPG. The only addition to suspension we added was air bags to balance out. We've had it for almost two years and we have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Newb needs help on installation

Ratchet straps do work. That's what we used to get our Hawk home after buying it used about 200 miles away. We hooked into the holes for the ratchet legs and ran the straps down to the frame. It's not ideal, but we got it home safely with no problems.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY Front Dinette Addition for 2019 Hawk Shell

We moved our roll-over couch to the back of the camper, built a small step upon which to mount our table leg, and made a small table top. It was a simple combination and we love it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2000 Hawk FWC Dinette?

I just moved the side sofa to the back and built a table from parts I got at a marine supply center. The column is removable, as is the tabletop so I have lots of options. The bonus of this setup is all of the storage under the roll over couch with the added step/floor platform.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Most popular size or model of a FWC

It makes sense the Hawk is the most popular because it fits on a wide variety of popular trucks. Ford sold almost 900,000 F Series trucks last year, followed by 633,000 Ram trucks, and 575,000 Chevy Silverados. Folks buying those would probably select a Hawk or a Granby depending upon the bed size.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hooking up Hawk to Bumper 7 pin on 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

I bought the standard electrical connection kit from FWC. The three pin "outboard motor" connector supplied power to the camper, but a separate wire was connected to the trailer lighting interface on the tailgate, thus allowing the running lights to function in tandem with the truck lights...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WHY do people eventually sell their FWC?

We bought our FWC Hawk used from a man who had a big change in his life situation. He and his wife were to be the only users until he had to adopt his 5-year-old grand son, who tipped the scales and made the camper too small for them (the dogs didn't help either) I'm sure there are as many...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Roof Damage - Repair in SoCal?

Wish I had a good answer for you, but I live in the Pacific Northwest. I am following closely though, because while my roof opens and closes, I've got a couple of bent spots from my own parking challenges, including an overhanging three I must avoid every time I pull into my driveway. I've only...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Exterior lighting not working

I'm wondering if anyone has found a replacement light or a switch cover to prevent this problem. I've resigned myself to spraying contact cleaner and canned air at regular intervals to keep it clean, but a permanent solution would be even better.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vinyl repair

You might try rubber cement thinner from an art supply store for removal of tape residue. It's worked for me.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vinyl repair

The vinyl is exactly the same material used in inflatable rafts like the one we have. There are a number of repair options including welding (if you have the skill and tools) and adhesive bonding. We've had to repair our rafts and others in the field by carefully sanding the repair area, using...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 6 volt batteries

The battery setup on our Hawk has been great. We have the 160 Watt solar panel into to 6-volt AGM batteries which run the fridge, and heater. We live in Oregon and can often get grey, dark skies, but so far we've only gotten a little worried. It's true that on dark winter days we wake up with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Prospective buyer here. Will a base F150 and a FWC Shell model work?

We've been running our 2017 F150XL for a year now with a Hawk shell and it's worked great. We have the 2.7 Ecoboost engine, air bags, 6.5 foot bed. We top out at 6350 lbs. fully loaded and weighed at a local truck stop. Our vehicle is rated to 6500 lbs. The engine doesn't seem to strain at all...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Back window glue

Our glass hasn't slid, but I noticed the rear window leaking and removed the bezel around it to discover it's only held in by traditional window glazing putty, no silicone, or any kind of actual adhesive.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Towing Mirrors?

Never felt the need for towing mirrors for my F150, but I thank the car design gods every time I shift into reverse and see the image from my backup camera. Of course, it was an add-on because I had to remove the original when I took off the tailgate to slide the Hawk in.

Clever idea. Might just have to give that a try myself.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind Fairing, Ford OEM Backup Cam, Hawk Exterior Shower Frame

Love the look of the AeroShield. I have a (less than successful) Yakima wind deflector on my F150. I'm thinking of picking up a bit of plexiglass to make it a little bigger, and hopefully more effective at taming wind noise.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk or granby

We've got the F150 with a 6.5 foot bed. The Hawk fits like it was made for it (and it was) See picture above.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bed Depths

Interesting. I've got a 2017 Hawk on a 2017 F150. The bed on my truck is only 23 inches, and the Hawk is about 25 inches. Does FWC make different height Hawks?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Exterior grab handle

On my 2017 Hawk, the grab handle bolts appear to be attached to the internal framework only. Every through bolt in my camper goes all the way through to a nut and washer visible inside .
