RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Batteries in New FWC Hawk

Captm - I'm not quite following you mainly due to the fact that I am waiting to pick up my camper and don't have it here in front of me and I'm not sure how they wire the camper to the truck's power. FYI, I drive a 2005 Dodge ram with the CTD. Is the camper wired to the truck's alternator or...

Kispiox - Thanks for the info. I'll run the calcs and see what my use will look like. coguzzi - I have the rollover couch due to the larger bed it creates. That is good info too about your ability to recharge quickly. When we are out on a hunting trip I don't foresee the need for a refrig...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Batteries in New FWC Hawk

If it's a short trip I won't likely charge it while on the trip, unless I do a little driving while we are at a spot. If it's a longer trip I'm leaning toward getting a generator. I hunt with an ATV so a little more unleaded fuel isn't a big deal. I'm going to look into solar too and see if...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Batteries in New FWC Hawk

On my last elk hunt I stayed in the same spot for over 15 days. I'll end up getting solar or a generator for situations like this. I'm leaning toward a generator so I can have the peace of mind if we loose power at home or I need to run tools away from the house. For shorter trips I'd like to...

Unless it was dead of winter and under 25 degrees at night I doubt we'd be using the heater all night long. I'm betting it wouldn't get used more then 4 hours in a single day.

I'm wondering if I should stay with one battery and not go with duals. I could sell the group 24 battery that comes with the camper and buy a new group 31 battery for a little more power. fish more; how long can you go on your dual group 24 batteries?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Batteries in New FWC Hawk

I pick up my new Hawk on Dec 23rd and I'm trying to figure out how to deal with the batteries. I ordered the Auxiliary battery option, but what I'm not liking about the option is the fact that it comes with a group 24 battery and not a group 31 battery. I don't plan on having a solar panel or...

I'm hoping to do both the LED bar in the front and LED floods in the back.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Late season chukar hunt.

Great job Ron. I usually get out at least once a year for Chukar, but not this year yet. It's a 5 hour drive to the nearest spot. I've been hunting brant here locally. This is the last weekend so we'll be hitting it both days.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Switching Rear Facing Flood Lights in Truck Cab

I generally never take my 3/4 ton truck into places that need me to get out of the truck to survey before proceeding. But I will get out and survey the spot first if needed. Last year in Wyoming on a pronghorn hunt I did just that. That Red Desert mud is scary business!

Thanks Mike. The LED lights are very low amp draw so I think anything 10 amps would be perfect. If FWC is still using the Grote LED Cube light they draw about 1.4 amps each. I was sitting here thinking if I could add a couple of other forward facing LED off road lights on the camper that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk Options - Now vs Later?

Or to California where you can climb the the tallest peak in the US (outside of AK), walk in the lowest spot in the US and swim in the ocean all in the same weekend!

I looked at my delivery options and with a 1.5 year old and a new business I couldn't justify the drive to NV or OR. Not to mention FWC likely wouldn't go for that especially since I am a CA resident. I was concerned about warranty coverage too.

I ordered mine on 11/15 to get in before the price increase. I emailed them to get an install date and they said 12/23rd.

Looks like I have a Dec 23rd install date for the Hawk. Just need to plan a shake-down trip for New Year's now.

@billharr, Thanks the info. I was thinking the same thing in regards to a new plug for the camper/truck connection so the rear flood lights would be part of the plug. @idahoron, Funny you say you should have added them. A lot of people commented that they never used them and thought they were...

So I ordered my Hawk a few weeks ago and I'm already trying plan some of the mods I want to do to it. One of the first things I'd like to do is wire a switch in the cab of my truck to power the rear facing exterior LED flood lights. I want to be able to turn the lights on from the cab of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to the Forum: Considering FWC Hawk

SmokeCreek mentioned insurance so I thought I'd mention this here...my insurance rep gave me a quote of $82/ year for full comprehensive and collision coverage. Less than $7 a month added to my truck's insurance!

My credit union let us take out a loan against a vehicle we have that is paid off. They gave me a 1.95 % interest rate. Typical RV loans are much higher than this. That could be an option.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to the Forum: Considering FWC Hawk

I'm leaning toward a Yamaha 2000 watt genny over the solar just for the convenience of being able to use it at home for an emergency or if I need to run power tools away from an outlet. In time though I'm sure I'll get a solar system too as I paid for the plug. BTW, we make coffee every...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to the Forum: Considering FWC Hawk

I just ordered my Hawk and don't have it yet, but one thing to consider is getting all options that would be very hard to install at a later date (e.g. rear wall steps, solar plug, furnace, water heater, etc). This is what I did and we'll see how that pans out once I get it. Kilroy was a ton...

Ended up getting a 1.95% rate from our credit union for our FWC camper loan so we decided to add a couple more items to the Hawk build. Added the 10-foot Yakima tracks, the front sliding window and the flush top appliances (wife really wanted these). Now the wait really begins since I can't...
