RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West For Those Running Air Bags

I just finished installing the Firestone Ride Rites in my Dodge w/ the Lorenz DP Leaf Springs. The install went pretty smoothly and I am impressed w/ the fit/finish/quality of the Firestone kit. The only part I wasn't crazy about was the bolts they use to mount the upper bracket... I HATE...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mod to get better MPG

I've been playing with this in my Jetta as well. I haven't hooked it up to the truck yet, but will do that when we go on a long trip with it. You can also create your own XGuages too. I've added transmission temperature, Distance to Empty and a few other combinations of Fuel monitoring.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Howdy

I went w/ the Firestone kit. Main reason is that Sean Lorenz is working at designing a long travel kit around them so hopefully I won't have to replace them when he gets his kit done. I'll just have to buy the extra components that he has developed. If I wasn't concerned about the future...

I don't think of it as being any less stout than before... it definitely has softer spring rates though. These springs have a softer 6 leaf primary than the 4 leaf stock primary and a progressive secondary with 5 leaves rather than the 1/2 thick or so single leaf secondary that the stock...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Why a FWC?

Jay, I'm usually running around town in the Jetta, 40 mpg vs. 19 or so in the Dodge. We should plan a get together sometime though... there is 1 or 2 others in Tucson too... aren't there? Perhaps w/ should move this to another thread instead of hijacking this one. :) Kyle

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Why a FWC?

Jay, What station is that? I may have to fill up there when I'm on your side of town... Better than the 4.13 I paid the other day for D2! I saw as high as ~4.30 up near Havasu/Bullhead/Kingman this week though. Kyle

The shock suggestion was more to Jay than to what you're planning for your truck. As for the suspension, I really like it unloaded, but w/ the camper it is a little too soft in the back. I spoke to Sean about it and his suggestion is to add airbags. He is working on a long travel airbag kit...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Why a FWC?

You can find a lot of this info on the FWC site here: FWC FAQ What is the campers biggest benefit? Many advantages are evident throughout the Four Wheel Camper design like the welded aluminum frame, low center of gravity and profile and the lightest weight in the industry. However, the...

For shocks, you may wish to look into the Bistein 5100 or 5150s as well. They made a night and day difference on my truck. I had them on briefly before I switched over to my new suspension. The new suspension made an even bigger difference (unloaded). Loaded I now need to add airbags or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water heaters on the trail

I've used the zodi extreme on a few trips and love it. The only downside I've seen is that it took a REALLY long time to heat up the last time we used it around 8-9k feet. I haven't done a search to see if people have done anything to compensate for that using white gas or something. Other...

Glad you enjoyed it. I took Alice and my parents up the backside and down the front side last Saturday. We had lunch at the Mt. Lemmon cafe in Summerhaven.... mmmm... yum! Heading down to Madera Canyon today for some birding/hiking/camping.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Modification

Now, I've been around here long enough to know that pictures should be a requirement of this thread... even better would be for everyone to reply with their favorite mods including links to the writeup/install pictures that they posted. I KNOW you all took pictures of your mods... now cough em...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few quick shots of the shady boy awning

Any updates on the Shady Boy Awnings a year later??? Still like them... holding up well etc? I just saw this one today on another site and looks like it could be a sturdy solution as well. http://www.campinglab.com/awning.html# For the rear of the camper I've been contemplating this...

Good topic... this is something that my wife and I have discussed, just haven't gotten around to installing one yet. I'll have to check out the model that you suggest. Thanks! Kyle

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Keeping the dust out

Good... I don't feel bad that I couldn't find it then either! I searched a couple of different ways figuring that there had to have been a discussion at some point, but came up empty. I did find reference to someone w/ the slider in the front and slider in the truck using their vent system...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Keeping the dust out

What tips and tricks have you used for keeping dust out of the camper? We took our Hawk out for the first trip this weekend and spent a couple of hours on dirt roads. When I went into the camper there was a layer of dust on everything. It wasn't terrible by any means, but I guess I expected...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone tow a trailer?

A lot of guys on the expeditionportal.com forum use the adventure trailers... very nice units and great guys from the couple of times I have met them and everything I've heard on expo. http://www.adventuretrailers.com/ I've never seen one w/ a dirt bike on it, but I'm sure they could figure...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anything you'd do different?

Any updates on the bed mods people have made? My wife and I just completed the first overnight in our new (to us) Hawk and wouldn't mind a more comfortable bed one bit... Is the memory foam working well for people? We have some on our bed at home and it has been wonderful.

Alice says that Catalina state park was very clean and quiet and full of interesting creatures... :) She was tent camping there about 8 years ago and when she opened up the tent in the morning she was greeted w/ about a dozen tarantulas that scattered everywhere. I have never camped there, but have heard good things. My wife (before we met) camped there a few times... I'll try to remember to ask her tonight and I'll be sure to post her response. Peppersauce on the north slope of Mt Lemmon is decent. I love the drive up the backside of the mountain as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Before/After Air Bags pix

I lost about 2 -3 inches in ride height in the rear w/ the camper on. More than the drop though is that fact that the driver's side dropped 3 3/8" and the passenger side only 2 1/4" and it bothers me to have my truck sitting about an inch lower on one side than the other. I assume the...
