RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Before/After Air Bags pix

How does everyone feel about their suspension travel? How much travel do the Tundras/T100s have stock? Do the airbags limit it? I would like to add airbags to my Dodge, but don't want to give up the 10 inches of travel that I have w/ my Lorenz DP springs. There is a long travel airbag option...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Step Stool

Is there any good option for steps that would attach to my Toyota pickup? I am in lots of uneven terrain and the portable step can be a hazard. If you have a receiver hitch, there are a couple of options for steps... like this: Hitch Step No affiliation w/ the vendor... they came up first...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West North Coast Fuel Prices

I just about cried... I drove through Needles, CA yesterday for work and Diesel was 4.50! I'm glad Diesel vehicles have such a good range. I made it down to Quartzite w/ a 1/4 tank to spare and filled up there for about 3.80. For reference, I was in our Jetta TDI (business vehicle/trip) and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New member with a few questions

Welcome and good luck! I just picked up my new (used) hawk this week and the PO was nice enough to help me install the eyebolts and load the camper into my truck. It took us several hours (long story... short cable jacks, tall truck), but we got it done and it made the trip home uneventful. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West We got one!

P.S. I do love my 8' door. The old Fleet model w/ 7' door I put new leaf springs on all four corners of the truck....Well, I was too tall to get out of the garage:( I had to flaten the tires and put 400 pounds in the camper to get out. Wish I had the 8' back then. LOL... I had the same...

Sorry, we don't believe in modifying them here :D I'm jealous of your eight foot garage door. Maybe I should just get out my chainsaw and go to work. If it makes you feel any better I just checked out popping it up in the garage and don't have the headroom for it... oh well. I can't have it...

Very nicely done... I have all my thoughts spinning in my head for mods... great ideas on this board!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Eagle/Ranger bed mod.

I like the idea... the only downside I see is that you're sleeping right against the window now. I like the idea of more floor space and storage space though! I wonder if you could create a barrier of somesort on the edge by the window so you aren't potentially pushing against it all night...

Just wish the ceiling was taller to pop up all the way inside the garage. That's what I was eyeing this morning. I have 9 foot 4 (or so) ceilings in the garage so I will have to figure out how high the extended height is. If the height is such that I think it will work, I need to move the...

My wife and I found a used 2002 Hawk in really good shape and brought it home yesterday. It isn't exactly what I would have wanted had we ordered it, but I certainly can't complain since it was 2 hours away in Phoenix and WAY cheaper than buying new! I took Ben's list with me of items to check...

Thanks for all the input guys... for now we've decided to stick w/ the truck we have... for a couple of more years anyway. We got a good deal on a nice used Hawk FWC in Phoenix so we went up and checked it out and bought it today! Here are some pics... I'll share some more details later. Kyle

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LEDs Make the Big Time

Has anyone seen what FWC has up their sleeve for LED lighting? Tom mentioned it when I was talking to him at the Phoenix Sportsman's Expo, but didn't know when they would be bringing them out and I didn't think to ask him about the possibility of retrofitting them.

The first rule of teaching someone a new skill is that they must have the desire to learn that skill... that and I think the cost of getting a new truck is cheaper than the cost of a divorce! :D

On the reliability rankings, I'm actually interested to see that the Dodge is rated higher than the Tundra. I think either vehicle is still a solid platform to go with. chnlisle, if I remember correctly from other reading that I've done on the forum, you came from a Tundra to your Dodge. Any...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Perfect mate for a fwc?

OK maybe this is a stupid question, Unless you want a long bed why get a new truck? We keep the FWC on our half ton as a semi daily driver for my wife, TDI jetta commuter. She usually ride her bike to work, 10 miles each way. I you do upgrade what do you want for the Dodge:rolleyes: There we...

Drakeslayer, How far off the beaten path do you take your Megacab? I'm somewhat concerned about the longer wheelbase as things tend to get pretty tight with my shortbed quadcab. Am I being overly concerned about the breakover and departure angles of the longer wheelbase? The truck still...

My wife and I have been discussing getting a FWC for our Dodge. Yesterday we went up and spoke w/ Tom at the Phoenix Sportsmen's Expo and it really got us talking about it.
