RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OSUFlyers Slow Keystone Remodel / Rebuild

Sweet Keystone, and truck! I scored my grandby in a similar fashion, several people tried to shoehorn it into their newer trucks and I showed up with my OBS f350 and drove off like a bandit haha. I've had no issues with my smoke colored vent. No noticeable heat and a nice mellow skylight...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Using existing propane connections for Mr Heater?

If you're referring to the Mr Heater "buddy" heaters, I know for a fact that the Little buddy will not work with the low pressure LP (I know because I tried). But, I'm pretty sure the big buddy heater has an extra port for low pressure LP. Not positive on this tho. I just bought a Wave 3...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Aid Kit Advice

Knowledge is power, especially in the medical realm. A WFR class like mentioned before was one of the most beneficial courses I've ever taken. Now that I'm an EMT I still look back on a lot of those skills, especially in the backcountry. That being said, stopping by your local EMS...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4WC + Dirtbike suggestions

I've had good luck with my DRZ400 (300 lbs. ?) on a basic hitch mount carrier. My truck is a one ton tho, not a tacoma. The only problem I had was accessing the camper door while traveling, tight squeeze to say the least. The main reason I have a truck camper is to avoid pulling a trailer...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Lines

Howdy, I recently pulled the trigger on a new Truck Fridge 51 because warm beer just isn't all that great, even when camping. When I finally was able to free the old Dometic 2 way from the camper I was able to see the old copper tubing set up and wasn't all that impressed. It was almost kinked...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck ownership philosophy

Knowing a vehicle and how it works has always been my plan. My two trucks, an 88' 4runner and my 93' f350 are by no means pretty vehicles to look at, but they have never stranded me. I can fix most anything on them aside from a major breakage and even then they both seem to be able to limp...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mpg report

Touring thru Idaho last week we got 17mpg at 60 mph on highway over two passes keeping rpms around 2k. Really good mpg cruising dirt roads at 1500 rpm haha. 7.3L n/a diesel 5 speed manual

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Soon to be new Hawk owner- Need advice Re. Dogs.

I have the duluth trading dog hammock too and it is bombproof for my very active red heeler and chessie. Since the kids came along and we need the backseat for people the dogs have been relocated to the camper. I actually think they are happier since they have more room and its easier for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford F350 6.0L Diesel and TorqShift Automatic

I couldn't agree with Desert Dave more. I've been around a couple of 6.0's in work truck applications. A friend of mine had one in a 2003 f250 flatbed that he used for towing skid steers and other logging machines and he never had problems with it. It was a running joke to see when it would...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding fourth tiedown passthrough

My 88' grandby didn't have rear internal tie down points on either side. I added an anchor point on the vertical section of wood before the back of the camper flares out, about 6" off the floor( in the middle of your first picture more or less). I made a simple access door in the flared out...

I've never heard of a wood frame either, but I think after 1990? the floor pack was narrowed to accommodate more modern truck beds such as yours. If I recall correctly the keystones are easier to modify to fit a newer truck if you want to go that route, lots of build threads on here about that.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Opened Turnbuckles

I agree, most climbing hardware should be left to climbing, but items such as steel twist links are used in climbing anchors everywhere as well as some of our campers. Heck, I even use steel bolt hangers designed for climbing applications for anchor points on my camper and my truck bed because...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Opened Turnbuckles

The Dynex slings and dog bones for climbing applications are indeed very strong, but they are designed to used with a shock absorbing dynamic climbing rope. The do not respond well to what climbers call "static shock loading" which would probably happen in a camper to truck application, and any...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Broken Hold Down Eyelet

I fixed this issue on my older camper by getting rid of the the eyebolts that were on it and using rock climbing bolt hangers and aluminum plates on both sides of the floor pack wood. I also used the bolt hangers in my truck bed with grade 8 bolts all the way around. The low profile of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Not sure what to say about this

I was half expecting (hoping) there would be a second picture of the rig jacked up into some crazy angle once he hit the hydraulics hahaha, low-ri-der. I guess it's good to know there's a shabbier fwc than mine still rolling down the road.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you bring/pack in your FWC?

pretty simple, I cut a piece of plywood that sits in the bottom of the bin and ran bolts thru everything to secure it. The bungee keeps the lid on.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you bring/pack in your FWC?

A hitch mounted cargo tray/basket thing with a permanently attached weather resistant rubbermaid container has been one of my most helpful items for the camper. I can toss all the dirty or wet items like dutch ovens, water fill up hose, fire grill, dog food dishes, charcoal, etc. in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West This old Granby build

Those lift bars look good! I've never seen that before. I can't see those rotting out anytime soon, especially if aluminum conduit was used, I like it. I too have an old grandby that needs some work, one of the previous owners did a botch job on the canvas and the front lift panel, functional...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yellowstone campgrounds/ wildlife viewing

Food storage for bears is a concern in the park and outside the park. Just keep a tidy camp and use bear boxes if available. I've never had an issue. As far as areas to camp around the park, Cooke city area and the nearby sunlight basin are beautiful, lots of national forest opportunities and...
