RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West San Diego FWC Rally

I'll be working on a plan to attend. Monday is a school holiday, so I may stay 'til then. Have a little creature starting kiddy garden, so my free time is getting revised these days...dang it.

Yes, that is bad stuff. I have a distant family member who has that behind his eye and will lose that sight. Don't know how you could ever get it there. My dad always had those "spots" cut off of his back. He never wore a shirt in the desert sun - Called them "barnacles"...Also told me "it's...

Can't help you there, but take a look at Comfort air fans. I have two of the "Gold" series. They have the variable speed and reverse switch. Less $$ than FF. Good price right now!! Go for it. https://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/shurflo-comfort-air-fans-gold-series/31463 ~DR

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Went to the "Dark Side"

Got a toy hauler recently. It is a long range addition the the Grandbaby. This allows us to take the toys, base camp and explore from there. I consider it a good way to go. Camper is always attached and fully stocked. Several times, I have run out of / or needed an item in the trailer and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Low Cost Mods

Jay - pool noodles seem to fall apart eventually (but, I understand the idea!). Pipe insulation is made to last a long time. The rubber type stuff is best. Casa - like the baskets. Tired of shoving all of the stuff in the cab, jams the door, etc. Will follow up with that idea. Jeff

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Low Cost Mods

Have you found that the pipe insulation is a worthwhile mod?I haven't been out in any dust or rain yet so it's to early to feel that what I have done is just for looks or will actually be a benefit. Hadn't thought about the RTV but the plastic "zip" ties will work. Thanks Frank I have used it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Low Cost Mods

The foam is squashed in the space but I think while driving it would work it's way out.So it needed to be at least held in place. A 1/4 bead of RTV along the edge of the insulation will keep it in place. I have done that for years. ~DR

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone FLY into Saline Valley ?

Also, FYI - there is a forum that is dedicated to the springs. http://forum.salinepreservation.org/ I have been a visitor since the late '70's, but not so much recently. Thanks to the "desert protection act" back in the mid 90's, it's just gotten too popular and less fun. ~DR

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 09 Grandby on 03 F250 CC Shortbed

Its the unexpected breakage that concerns me. A coworker had his cables corrode under the plastic cover so he didn't know they were weakening, he was sitting on his tailgate and someone else hoped up and the cables let go. The tailgate folded down onto the bumper and put a nice dent/crease in...

If any one wants to see what I look like when I'm out exploring the desert I'm on the cover of the Nov 1938 Desert Magazine...:) Are you the one on the left or the right side?? Someone had a listing of all of the articles or an "index". Know anything about that?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gap betwen truck side and camper overhang?

That looks good. I used the black foam pipe insulation on mine. You may find that over time it may squeeze or work its way out due to the slight movement of the camper and bed. I ran a bead of RTV along the bottom side of the camper and it has held the foam in place. ~DR

Wow! Looks like Stainless? Your design? Looks functional. It is very nice and I'm sure it was a bit of a cost. There seems to be different configurations, I see a (hitch?) ball in one pic. ~DR

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pay it Forward (Free FWC Door)

What most folks don't realize is that there are many different door sizes. Changes over the years and different model sizes. I went through this last year when I upgraded to the screen door ($380 shipped). I tried to get a used door and later tried to give mine away, no luck. Hopefully it will...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What to do with the space between camper & truck-bed walls?

I mounted a battery bracket to the bed of my truck before I put the camper on. It is located in front of the wheel well on the right side. The older Grandbys had a panel to access that space on both sides. It is easy to get to the battery to check or replace and it works very well!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wrinkled vinyl windows

Makes good sense Mark and that's the way I understand it. Perhaps we should contact the tech guys at 303 and find out how their product really works. After all, there is a good audience here. BTW, I noticed they are located in the small town of Palo Cedro (norCal)...know who lives there...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wrinkled vinyl windows

loss of plasticizer I believe that is what happens. The plasticizers are what binds the little tiny bits of the plastic together. Sort of like a lube. Lose that and the plastic doesn't stay together anymore, it cracks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wrinkled vinyl windows

So this product is for protection, right? Do you know if it works for vinyl that's already gone stiff? Not sure about that - but, this is what ATC & 4WC will recommend. They also advise NOT to use the product that starts with an "Arm" and ends with "all". (I don't like to say negative things...

This is what a lot of us use: http://www.303products.com/shop303/index.cfm/category/65/303-aerospace-protectant.cfm It works very well and you s/b able to find it locally. I have an '86 Grandby and the windows are very soft. I use the 303 every few months. Also- when the windows get old, be...
