RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire size recommendation for Dodge 2500 diesel with Alaskan Camper?

The difference between D rated and E rated is not necessarily weight carrying capacity but more precisely air pressure capacity. The D's are 65 pounds max, the E's are 85 pounds max. True and not true - There are D rated tires with the same weight rating as similar E rated tires. But when you...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Features: The useful and not-so-useful

You can either get a foot switch or this combo faucet/pump has a switch built into the faucet: http://www.americanrvcompany.com/Shurflo-94-009-20-Electric-Faucet-100-Pump-Combo-Kit-94-009-21-Trailer-Camper-RV_p_1012.html x100 on the 12V faucet. I installed the one above. Super nice! Other...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Soaked Roof Pack/Headliner!?!

I am chasing a very similar leak - it is running down one of the roof beams and coming out at the pass. rear corner. I started by pulling every screw on the side trim on the top and squiking a little silicon int he holes and putting the scres back in. If the screw was wet I tossed it and really...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Scepter gas cans

What besides weight and cost makes the metal cans a bad choice? Seems like it would be easy to steal gas out of the plastic Scepter cans by poking a couple of holes in them. Can you lock the filler caps? I sometimes leave my truck at trail heads for days at a time. The cheap metal cans leak...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yet another fuel can mount

There is a lot of cool 'desert racing' stuff out there. They tend to make everything out of aluminum which is right up our alley. Just get a flat billed hat and some vans and you'll fit right in!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West roof lifting helper shocks thingys

I got my hardware in the mail and got the struts installed yesterday! WooHoo! They work great - except the part where the front pops up before you can latch it down. But that will be solved once I build my roof rack and put some crap on top. The offset brackets are the way to go. They helped...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Factory luggage rack black top caps needed

I can see them costing a dollar. By the time you pay someone to take a phone call or email, process a credit card payment, walk to the warehouse/storage area for the part, put it in a box, label it and ship it - a $0.03 costs a $1. Now a $20 part better not have that kind of mark up, but you...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heater

I am frequently successful with ignition if I slightly pull the sail switch with a piece of wire- but not always. This also sounds like a low voltage issue. If the fan can't spin fast enough to activate the sail switch it will not fire the 'fire'. Do some voltage checks and see what they say.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What is the WTW camper type?

What about Flippacs or Wildernests, not really campers but certainly fit the low pro / back country profile? From my short time here - I'd say those don't offer enough creature comforts. It appears to me that the 'we' want light weight, heavy duty with all the options.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yikes, found water intrusion

I found water in mine in the same place on Sunday. A nice little puddle on top of the closet. Where do you think yours was coming from? I looked all over for the possible problem - but came up with nothing....

Moeller Scepter on Amazon? Home owner grade and a different size than the standard Scepter cans. Much thinner plastic from what I have heard.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Scepter gas cans

Similar one on Amazon? That is a metal can - The Scepter ones are plastic and super tough. Here is a very similar one being sold as a 'water' can Water can The metal US style 5 gallon cans, in my opinion, are terrible. I've used the Scepter cans and they are much better. I personally have...

i just read through all the posts and decided to put my 2 bits into the convo : ) I had the (now humorus) unpleasant experience of having a cansister hit the ground with the safety off. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting a Hi-Lift jack to the rear bumper

I hate my hi-lift. I use it as little as possible. From the simple saftey aspect I use my factory jack as much as possible. I've tried a zillion methods to haul my hi-lift around. The hi-lift mounts you can buy work if you have a flat place to put them. If I was building a mount for the back of...

I went with my battery in the camper under the front bench in the middle. It makes it nice to be able to have power to the camper when it is off the truck. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Quick removal camper jacks?

I've jacked up 1/2 of my loaded car trailer (+/- 8000 pounds) with my OEM truck jack to change a flat. I would have no problems jacking up one tire on my truck with the camper on it. I'd wager most stock truck jacks could do the same. I wouldn't want to chance hurting the camper using the...
