RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper, Adventure Trailer, Lightweight Trailer or Motorhome

I voted for getting a light weight offroad capable camper. Run that until you need to replace the H3 (which looks pretty setup and ideal for what you need). When the H3 gives up - get a fullsize pickup and popup camper and a small offroad utility/gear trailer. I love my popup camper - but I am...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another solar panel sale

The panel I got from Solar Bld came with no instructions - but the outputs on the panel where clearly marked + and -, so it was simple enough. The charge controller was also marked + and - for the input and output, and had pretty good instructions.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 20'S?

When you need a tire in BFE, you want to have a very common size...Tire woes really make for an unhappy trip. Done there, been that. Any more though -- with all the factory 20" wheels the only odd part of the tire in question is the 33" size. Make sure and have a fullsize spare and 'get...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 20'S?

I'd keep the current tire/wheel combo until they are worn our and you need new tires. Then sell/trade someone for some 17" or 18"s and buy new tires at that point. I was able to trade away, plus he gave me cash, the 17" bling wheels my truck came with for the factory alloy 16" wheels that I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Edgestar 43 qt fridges down to $407!

One year long term update: I've had the Edgestar 43 qt model for a full year now and it had been great. I did cut off the supplied 12 volt cigarette lighter plug after the 1st day of testing and replaced it with an anderson power pole connector, with the new connector I have never lost power...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

I voted 'No difference' -- but I have no big trips planned :( When gas was $1/gallon I made $6/hr and drove where ever I wanted. I'm paying $4.25/gallon for diesel now and my pay has stayed just ahead of the gas inflation... So I still drive where ever I want :D BUT if gas/diesel was WAY...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley 2nd time, didn't turn out so well

I had the same thing happen on an IH Scout years ago - towing a boat to add to the trouble. I blame it on someone trying to steal my wheels OR improper torquing when someone (me most likely) changed a tire last. I didn't notice it until the wheel had hammered the wheel studs enough to destroy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Baja Editorial Soap Box

While we were helping them a group of several very high dollar, race type, "buggies" driven by Americans and a number of high dollar SUV's driven by Mexicans just blew by us and only one said "need help?" I hate to paint with such a broad brush but I think you nailed the crux of the problem...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lake Superior

I've done the 'southern' route 2 times and the northern route 1.5 times. My two favorite lasting memories from the southern route are: 1) Driving through Detroit on an elevated portion of the freeway and looking down into a neighborhood and seeing a burning car with nobody really giving it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Solar Thread

Side note - I just installed my system over the last few weeks - I needed WAY more wire than I thought I would need. My camper was not pre-wired so I needed everything, and my battery is under the front couch seat. I used almost 40' of wire!! :( I also came to the conclusion that there is no...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Drilling into camper from outside

I have had luck finding the frame by just pushing on the skin and 'seeing' where the frame pieces are. You can also search up the picture of the bare frame camper to get an idea where the frame should be.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trip to Iceland

April Fools or not -- I like the idea of going to Iceland. :D They have some pretty crazy offroad snow wheeling trucks over there. If you need fender flares for your new Toyota to fit 20" wide tires - Iceland is the place to get them!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Car Stories

I'm not old enough to have a cool story.... 1986 Ford Ranger 2wd. Got it before I had my license and sweet talked my mom into letting me drive it to school so she didn't have to :D Drove the crap out of that truck - offroad, on road, camping trips, everywhere. It was a road trip machine, good...

The free CAD arena just got another boost recently... Dassault Systemes has introduced DraftSight. On a side note to this thread, how many of you have problems with rodents getting into your gray water? We've had two instances where mice have clambered into our collapsible 5 gal gray water tank. Pretty gross pouring out a dead mouse in the morning! :o I should probably work out some sort...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West edgestar deal!

What is your one battery, Scout? CarQuest brand Xtreme AGM. It is a rebadged DEKA. I get a fleet discount at CarQuest so they are pretty cheap for an AGM. I need to go get the numbers off of it and pull the actual specs.... Walked outside and looked at the battery -- It is the NG65 - 75 AH...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Can in Your Truck Camper?

Terrible ideal unless your truck is diesel - and then it is just a bad and smelly idea. Gas has ZERO place inside a closed vehicle. :mushroom cloud: It seems that everyone either goes on the roof or mounts a can holder to the exterior back wall.
