Thinking about going Lithium, have questions...

Thank you all for the reply’s. I will be getting a warranty replacement for the bad battery for sure, but it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth and a concern that it could happen again. Mighty max requires me to ship the battery back to them for replacement, on my dime. Food for thought...

Thinking about going Lithium, have questions...

Thanks for the responses. I already have a Progressive dynamics converter/charger and it has a lithium ion battery switch option. So as far as I know, there is nothing else I need to switch out in order to go lithium. I am tempted to try out one of the 100AH Chinese lithium batteries on Amazon...

Thinking about going Lithium, have questions...

Hello everyone, I'm looking for some more advise. I installed (2) 12V 100AH AGM batteries in my FWC Hawk back around September. They are Mighty Max #MH100-12 batteries. I just noticed the other day that one of the batteries was very hot and smelled like sulfur. I pulled it from the system and...

Propex HS2000 vs HS2800 in a Hawk Camper

I'm looking to buy a Propex HS2000 or a HS2800 soon. I would have preferred to buy a used one over the crazy prices the new ones are now going for, but i've had no luck in finding one. If anyone has any tips on where to find one in stock for a reasonable price, please let me know. They all seem...

Adding interior lights to a FWC

Great info. I will just run some new wires from the existing fixtures or the fan. That makes the most sense. Thank you both

Adding interior lights to a FWC

I am going to add another light fixture in the over cab portion of my Hawk camper (inside on the ceiling). I was wondering if anyone knows how the wires are routed to the the lights and fan in the ceiling. Do they run inside the framing or along side of it? Hoping I can cut a slit in the ceiling...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

Thank you very much, that really helped me wrap my head around it. I know its a best guess, but that is exactly what I was looking for. Much appreciated.

    Rounding off jack bracket corner

I recently had all of mine powder coated and I did the same thing right before I had it done. Smoothed out all of the edges and corners. So much nicer.

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

That makes sense to me as well Vic, I won't worry about it too much. If I was to take those suggestions above and make a connection to the truck, what kind of charging speed could I expect from the alternator? I am just not sure I would do enough driving during a weekend trip to really charge...

Turnbuckle Question - Torklift Derringer Handles

Great stuff gents! I'm glad I asked. I'm always looking for new tips and tricks. Thank you After seeing pictures online, I am thinking about making some centering wedges/guides in each corner of the bed to force the camper to exact center once lowered. I'd probably cover them in Delrin sheet...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

Great stuff everyone, thank you! Took me a while to get through all of it, but worth it (even though some of it is still over my head). I am hoping that this (2) 100AH battery setup allows me to stay above 50% DOD for my short trips, then I can just plug it in to shore power when I get home to...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

That is how I understood it as well. So isn't there a concerned about AGM's needing to be fully recharged after depleting? The trucks alternator would never really get them back to 100%. And wouldn't a solar system cause the same concern? You'd keep charging to somewhere under 100% and then...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

I have heard that it is best to FULLY recharge AGM batteries once they have been depleted (don't recharge unless you have the time to recharge to 100%). So if you don't routinely recharge your AGM's up to 100% after you have depleted them, it shortens the life of the batteries. This begs the...

Turnbuckle Question - Torklift Derringer Handles

How do you manage to measure accurate enough to be sure you are within 1/8"? Do you do that just for the purpose of getting the turnbuckles to work, or because of OCD :D ? I can't really imagine any adverse effects from being off center 1/2". Am I ignorant to something at play here? Now I am...

Turnbuckle Question - Torklift Derringer Handles

I am interested in using the Torklift Derringer handles for my turnbuckle setup (used on the stock interior mounting points) Question: This setup is not spring loaded, so wouldn't you have to make sure the camper is EXACTLY centered in the truck bed in order for them to fit right? Example -...

Which battery system would be better?

I wanted to reach out for advice between these two battery systems. Or if you have a better recommendation for the money, I'm all ears. Mighty Max Batteries (SLA/AGM type): (QTY 2) 12V, 125AH in parallel to yield a total of 250AH. $500 total (QTY 2) 6V, 200AH in series to yield a total of...

Help needed upgrading FWC 12V system

Excellent post Craig, much appreciated. I have a Victron BVM-712 in my travel trailer. I guess I should probably pony up for one in the camper too. I like the idea of saving the money on just getting the smart shunt though, I’ll look into that. I’m liking the solar idea. Any better options...

Camper sits higher in the front than in the rear?

It is a 2016 Ford F-250; 3200lb payload. It’s not making the trucks suspension sag at all, but the bed rails are not parallel with the camper. The underside of the camper is stock and nothing unusual in the bed. Sounds like Fish More has the almost identical setup and has the same issue so it...

Cover ideas for in-wall A/C unit?

I have a small in-wall A/C unit mounted to the back of my FWC. If I am parked out of level it, water leaks into the inside of the camper. Rather than have to worry about the angle I am parked at and if it is going to rain, I thought I'd see what people are using to cover their units. Any ideas...

Camper sits higher in the front than in the rear?

I recently purchased a 2004 Hawk and noticed that it sits 1/2" higher in the front than in the rear. I have a spray-in bedliner, with a rubber bed mat, and a 2" thick foam platform underneath in order to clear the cab. I checked that everything was sitting flush to the bed through the turnbuckle...

2013 Grandby rear flood lights.. alternative?

I just recently replaced mine with these. Not really flood lights, but they put out plenty of light for me. Look sleek too. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZW1CPH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Help needed upgrading FWC 12V system

That's correct, I keep it plugged in inside my garage between trips. Most trips will only be an hour or two away so that doesn't give it much charging time anyway. Maybe a couple 6+ hour trips per year. Its my first truck camper (I also have a travel trailer) so I guess I will have to see how...

Help needed upgrading FWC 12V system

Sound advise, thanks. I will be taking it out next weekend and see what happens. At a minimum, I may change the battery cables to #6 to see if that speeds up charging at all.

Help needed upgrading FWC 12V system

Hello group, I need some guidance from some of you electrical gurus. I recently purchased a 2004 four wheel camper (FWC) "Hawk" model. I am going through it and making worthwhile upgrades and have some questions regarding the 12V system. Usage needs: Right now I don't think I will wire the...
