    Is solar worth it?

Donc,<br />Something is wrong and FWC should fix it. Make a stink and get to the president. Keep the rest of us informed. Who ever it was that told you driving does little to charge the batteries probably should be avoided. Unless your alternator is broken or way underpowered driving should...

    Is solar worth it?

Either the solar panel does not work or power is going somewhere it should not. Is there an electric hair dryer around, do you have AC in the camper? are you parking in the shade? We have gone for several trips of length 4 weeks or longer and never had a problem getting enough power from our...

    ORU Kayaks

We are very happy with our Gnu from Alpacka. It is small, about 7 lbs (9 with seats) and holds the 2 of us.

    Floor pack problems

How about screwing on some angle brackets, say 3" x 3". There is a lot of pull on the eyebolt so this area gets stressed.

How do you mount your scissor steps to your FWC?

This is a confusing picture but if you study it you should see what I did (I hope). I have also attached a storage pipe above the bumper (left side of picture). Steps are folded up and held in place by straps. Picture seems to be rotated for reasons I do not understand. Furthermore it comes up...

How do you mount your scissor steps to your FWC?

With an Eagle on a Tacoma I had plenty of room to attach an L iron (I used heavy alum.) to the camper bottom. Then I used the standard attachment bracket bolted to the L. The steps detach fairly quickly. Works well in my back yard. The real test comes in a couple of weeks and lasts all summer.

Cost to maintain and own a FWC? Realistically...

As stated above maintaining a FWC costs very little. There are temptation costs e.g. new 10 ply tires for the truck. You can avoid these if you really need to. The big cost has to do with what you would have been doing had you stayed home instead of heading out to the wilds. If you could...

Suggestions for tires on Tacoma Prerunner TRD 2x4 with Fleet camper

As any Tesla fan will tell you the dealers are usually not much help. I had to buy new E tires from an independent tire dealer and sell my new P tires on Craig's list. Have no regrets and will do the same next time (unless Tesla delivers with E).

Question of clearance between Fleet & Tacoma Access Cab rooftop

There is some play in the system - the distance varies. I would make your carrier out of something that can give a bit and will not scratch the roof.

    Jack brackets repurposed

Always remove jacks before I travel. Brackets are used for: attaching bottom of poles holding out rear awning (home made), one end of clothes line (other in the trees), one end of ratchet strap (when turnbuckle hold down broke) other end some place under the truck, and I am pretty sure there...

    How far can you go?

My goal is forever. I figure a Tesla pickup and new light weight solar panels should be able to refuel with just a few days at each camp site. No end to it.

Who lives out of their camper?

On the road we once met a couple that were living out of their Alaska until the housing crisis calmed down. They had been going about a year and a half and had many months ahead. He was happier about it than she was. We have gone over a month in our FWC Eagle and see no reason why it could not...

    Rear view camera thoughts

I tried the wireless version 2 years ago and immediately drilled a hole through the cab of my one week old truck (ouch) so I could string a wire. But sooner or later the wireless version will work (maybe blue tooth).

FWC Fleet in Tacoma w/composite bed

You will need a 6 point star tool to remove the Taco bolts (and re insert them). My Toyota dealer had no idea of what size the tool was. Mine says it is a T55. FWC under engineered the first few brackets - they need to be much tougher than one would think. I doubt this is a profitable area in...

    Coat Hooks

I use various hooks in that area that I hold in place by pinching part of them between the two boards of the roof support system. I had hoped to use suction cup hooks but they don't hold unless pinched into place.

    only 3 tie downs?

When it happened to me (3,000 miles from home) I used an ordinary cloth ratchet strap on the outside to hold the corner in place. Put one hook on the flange used for jacking, the other whatever I could catch under the truck. Held fine at turnpike speeds and back roads.

Solar Math - calculating the needs of a DC Fridge (or What's Wrong with my CR65?)

I do not see where the problem is. But I am pretty sure there is one. We have run a 2 amp fridge for many days with less solar power than you have. The watts up meter may be your best bet.
