RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Newbie With Tire Question

I love the yokohama geolander A/T's on my Nissan Frontier with an Eagle shell. I've had a couple sets and gotten good service from them. Definitely go with the LT rated tires for durability. We do alot of mountain and desert backcountry roads and have never flatted. If they don't make the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fuel Cans

On my Nissan Frontier I installed a front receiver and use a winch mount from Harbor Freight to carry 2 five gallon cans, sometimes water and sometimes gas. In the front if I hit something it's my fault, in the rear you are at the mercy of the texting teenager behind you. We've been through...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch light

Mine failed and I installed an interior switch to replace it, I never liked the idea of some numbnuts being able to turn it on and run down my battery while I was away from the truck.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Has FWC Ever?

I built a poptop camper for my wife's truck in 1997 that was constructed this way. The shell was bolted to the top of the bed rails just like a regular camper shell. This saved lots of weight (only 300 lbs for the shell) which we needed since it was a 4 cylinder 93 Nissan. It was on the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Arctic Liner and Mattress Insulation

I would worry about the cotton material absorbing moisture and molding. Make sure you remove the material and thoroughly dry it after a trip so that that doesn't happen. One of the things I like about my reflectix Articpac is that it cannot absorb moisture.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Turnbuckle options

In the long run it may be easier to make the access doors longer so that you have better access. If it is difficult to tighten/check you may be tempted to not check turnbuckle tightness and this can lead to camper damage if they loosen even a small amount.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

Poky, Awesome rebuild, I built my first camper from scratch and I think it might have been less work because I didn't have to deconstruct it first. Glad the superstrut tiedowns worked for you, mine are still going strong, Enjoy UT. -BillM

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Couldn't handle it any longer....

Used the rock hard foam in our 2010 Eagle for one trip and replaced it. Used a 3" thick sheet of medium density upholstery foam that we purchased at a local fabric outlet shop here in Reno. We had used the same thing in our old camper for 12+ years so knew we would like it and that it would...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using a hitch cargo carrier ?

I put a front hitch on my Frontier and use a Harbor Freight winch mount to carry gas, water, outboard motor, wood on. I did cut and weld it to raise it up to avoid approach angle issues. Cheap, simple and not a backup issue.

Leaving tomorrow to head to Whitebird, ID to float the Lower Salmon. We'll take out at Heller Bar on the Snake then head to Clarkston WA to resupply. After that heading south to Joseph OR. Does anyone know how the Huckleberry season is going in those areas? Just looking to pick a couple of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any experience with vinyl welders? Need to replace vinyl...

MDM54, I agree that roughing up the surfaces may not be needed for all bonds. The material I used for my camper tent seemed to have a shiny glaze on it that made me a little concerned. Since the tent bonds were mission critical I lightly sanded and then cleaned and glued. They have held up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any experience with vinyl welders? Need to replace vinyl...

Kolo, I've no experience heat welding vinyl but have used a cement called HH-66 a lot. I made a tent for a popup camper from glued vinyl in 1998 and it is still in great shape in my backyard. As with any glue bond you need to clean and roughen the material but it's easy to do, very durable...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wireless Backup Camera

Has anybody installed a wireless backup camera on their truck/camper? I've been thinking about it but it seems like there may be reception issues due to distance and interference from the truck bed or camper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Direct Bolt on Flatbed

Wow, I'm jealous of your diesel truck, camper and MPG. I've thought of doing something similar with my Frontier, the bed is really just added weight and wasted space since my camper is on all the time. Looks like a great set up. I'm looking forward to your interior build.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

Poky, Wow, what a build. Back in 97-98 I custom built a pop top camper for a 93 Nissan PU that my wife and I lived in for a year and then used for weekend/vacation trips for another 10 years before we got our new truck and a FWC. I honestly think your rebuild is more work than my custom job...
