    Hiatus Campers

Living in the wet northwest soft sided campers are not ideal. So last month I drove over to Issaquah to check out Hiatus campers https://www.hiatuscampers.com/ and really liked how they are built. Check them out! Cheers

Anyone driven their camper over Mengel Pass?

I've done the Mengal Pass several times over the years. Each year the was difficulty was different due to the amount of that years rain and number of vehicles that had traveled over the pass prior to my trips. Be prepared to stack rocks if needed. Sorry I could have not been more helpful. Check...

Thanks for the reply and pic's! Now that you have been able to spend a bit of time with your camper have you any mods in mind? Cheers!

    Timbren suspension products

I use Timbrens in the rear in lieu of the factory bump stops. The truck does not sit on them even when fully loaded, the OME springs with two additional leaves (installed upside down) make sure of that. When using them in an overload application be aware that they do have a "fast" rebound...

Flat bed side door entry-Dream camper

Very nice build! I have a few questions if you will. How is the camper mounted to the flatbed? How are the solar panels mounted? Does the alternator charge the house batteries? How is the storage under the seats accessed? I notice that the overhead storage and the galley drawers do not have a...

    Rock rails versus Running boards

IMHO Running boards are steps and offer no real physical protection. On the other hand "sliders" or "rock rails" have many advantages. Side protection if you slide off the trail/road, the ability to slide on them over rocks, can be used as a pivot point, lifting the truck with a hi-lift (or...

    Fleet Tacoma Bucking/Shuddering/Bouncing

Bill, I told Icon that I was carry extra weight, but do not recall what that number was and they valved the shock accordingly. In hindsight I should have gone in for the adjustable model, not that it's needed but I always wonder what "if". Model #IVD-57805P Cheers!

    Fleet Tacoma Bucking/Shuddering/Bouncing

I noticed the porpoise action when I first got my tacoma (2005 4dr lwb) driving on the freeway. I solved the problem for the most part by moving out of the truck lanes and staying in the auto lanes. I still find this happening when on truck routes usually on interstate hwys and in cities. Two...

    Tacoma flatbed FWC

So which is more efficient carrying a load or towing a load? It would take a bit of testing to prove either way and would it only apply to the truck tested or all similiar ( mid size, full size etc.) trucks? Which do you want torque or horsepower for hauling, for towing? Towing obviously has...

    Tacoma flatbed FWC

Power with the V6 4.0 is not a problem with the tacomas. However it does come at a price - low MPG! With a Scan Guage I used to constantly watch my fuel consumption and it is was an eye opener. But I fixed it - I do not look at it going up hill. :P I am not sure how towing capacity comes into...

    Side boxes instead of fenders

You could go the flatbed route then cut the flat bed and fab up a wheel well to keep it low. This would leave storage fore and aft of the wheel. But do you really want more storage space? It just means carrying more stuff which equals more weight. A tacoma, gen 1 or 2 is already overweight...

    Liner Stitching wear

Has anyone else have a problem with the stitching wearing out near the top of the frame? My Fleet is a 2014 and I knew I had a leek but could not find it. Finally found the problem and a lot of water gets through. I woke up with a wet mattress, pillow and sleeping bag last week in Alaska...

    When do you recharge?

I have to chime in here as well, I've seen this stated several times before and must thoroughly disagree. I have never plug into shore power, in fact have no way to do so and yet see my battery fully charged daily via solar and/or alternator. My system consists of a 125 amp/hr Lifeline...

    Power issues

I still do not understand why FWC install "duel purpose batteries" in their campers. IMHO your batteries are not being fully and correctly charged. The Tacoma alternator will put out enough voltage and amps to charge an agm battery, but it will take time, depending on the amount of discharge...
