Self Tapping ,Thru Bolt or Tapped

I did the same as Mark, used self-tapping stainless steel (~ 3/4"-1") screws to attach strut brackets. I also dapped silicone around the holes prior to inserting the screws. Brackets still seem secure after six years. (2012 Hawk)

    Relocating...

Sitting here in Coastal Humboldt County and I'm thinking about relocating to a more balanced geographical region. Where one is in the middle...closer to mountains, desert, water, etc. Here, one can travel south, east or north. My camper won't do well going west :/ For those of us who are...

    Portable solar cable length?

I have a Zamp 100W portable w/25 ft. cord. I feel it's too short and 50 ft would be better. But, I think power loss occurs as wire length increases...

    Water Solutions

I agree with DavidGraves, the Flying J showers are great. They are large, clean, sanitary and warm. Also with sink, well ventilated and towels are included...or use your own as I do. You can also share a shower with your wife/girlfriend and cut the cost in half. I too, use a water container...

    Micro Jumpers

Beach, Ditto CougarCouple, buy quality. Also, beware of cheap and counterfeit micro-starters. I bought a Micro-Start XP-10 at Amazon. Paid a little more than other brands, but still pretty cheap insurance. This one is small, lite and has plenty of stored power.

    Kidde fire extinguisher recall

The Kidde website did not work for me. Plan B: Called their "Kidde Support Line" toll free number @ (855) 271-0773. The receptionist will take and enter your information (name, address, model/serial numbers and color) into their computer system. Done! You can expect your new fire extinguisher...

    Tundra/fwc

Adrian, the Tundra and FWC are the best, but I'm not quite sure if together is best. I had the '02 Tundra AC and a 2012 Hawk/combo and it did OK(?), but I believe I was really working my truck hard. And, I also drive "old" man style, which I am one :) I upgraded the tires to E's, HD shocks and...

    Tire Recommendations

I currently have a Ram 3500, 4x4 (gas) hauling fulltime a ~2000lb. (loaded) Hawk. I have Toyo A/T, LT285/75R tires. They don't seem any noisier than other tires I had in the past. I had a Tundra with Toyo's LT tires (same Hawk) and they lasted and performed well, but they are a little on the...

    Rear awning For sale ?

Hey Dave, I have the FWC rear awning and we do like it. It works well and set up time is ~ 2-3 minutes. We set it up when we stay in one place 2+ days. You are welcome to come by (where on I-5 are you) and check it out. I have a few road trips coming up, but if your trip is scheduled during...

New FWC with gas strut - not enough

At the time I wasn't able to add struts above the rear entry door due to the layout (curved door and lights) of my 2012 Hawk....Soon after FWC introduced connecting studs in which the strut connected to. Anyway, I installed my struts to the rear sides of my camper, works very well. If you go...

    Portable Jump Starters

Thanks for all your great impute. I have my eye on the XP and Genius Boost brand micro jump starters. Both had good reviews, as did the Jump-N-Carry, however, this one is a little too bulky for my space. Hope I never have to use one in emergency, but if I do, I'll pray it works:)...just another...

    Portable Jump Starters

Hello to all..... I looked, but could not find any (past) info here on Portable Jump Starters. I would like to buy one for (mostly) emergency use. I have a 6.4L Hemi. I need some real life experiences and recommendations before I buy one. I will always keep jumper cables in my truck, but I...

    Camper use in winter

X2 Smokecreek1...we really enjoy reminiscing about our backpacking days while sipping hot drinks in our warm Hawk. I'm heading into the Great Basin and then to Southern Utah in a few weeks. Also, I like winter camping, cuz you see and experience the same campsite, mountains, landscape and...

    Truck suggestions (four wheel camper)

Thought I would add my 2 cents...I have a 2012 fully loaded Hawk w/o porta potty. Add two humans, one or two dogs, water, food and my gear and I'm around the 2,000++ pound wt. I had my Hawk on a 1st generation Tundra for two years and we covered 30,000+ miles. I added Airbags (due to 3"...

    Best Procedure for Washing Dishes?

We use three Rubbermaid type tubs, about sink size. One tub is in the sink with warm water and a few drops of Bio liquid soap. The other two tubs are on the counter to my right and left. Tub on my right has the dirty dishes which have been scrap clean of food particles. The other tub is on my...

    Longer Roof Latches available?

I would first check with FWC. Perhaps they have some parts laying around. Or, if need be, buy new ones and use only the part(s) needed, assuming the thread pattern is the same. I believe RV stores also carry theses latches. Good luck
