RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Brake light wiring question (4-prong trailer connector)

So, after learning a little about this 'converter' I now realize that what I need for my wiring setup is a 2-to-3 converter (converts 2 wire signal to 3 wire signal). This unit will 'separate' my brake light signal (steady current) from the turn light signals (intermittent current). Thanks for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rookie FWC Owner Looking for Insurance Tips

My insurer considers my '17 Hawk to be 'vehicle upgrades' such as fancy wheels or the like. I was required to show my bill of sale, and they used some 'table' to calculate 'value' and 'premium' for the camper, to be added to my truck's insurance. Small upcharge to my premium, $77 iirc. My state...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Brake light wiring question (4-prong trailer connector)

I installed a center high-mount brake light on the rear of my '17 Hawk and connected it to the trailer electrical connector (4-prong male) to improve safety on my rig. I used a 4-prong, 6-ft, 4-wire utility trailer wiring lead (male) and connected it to an LED lamp using two of the four wires in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Tires Needed

I say stick with the Toyo's; they are made in the US now (huge modern plant in GA) and they are nearly universally seen as one of the top-quality tires available. Your choice of the AT3 is wise (3 snowflake rated iirc) and would be a nice transition from the AT2's (which I am running on my RAM...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charge FWC AGM's thru rear SAE with NOCO Genius 7200?

Thanks Vic! So after several days it's still barely pushing 2A into the batteries, gonna hafta try something else....Probably alligator clips to the paired batteries....I'll likely attach a Genius connector to the paired batts if the alligator clips work out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charge FWC AGM's thru rear SAE with NOCO Genius 7200?

I like this idea!^ But, what about 'independent charging' the batteries while they are attached to the FWC system? Any potential issues? So I tried the Genius setup today for a few hours; the Zamp controller indicated I was getting approx 1.5-2.2 amps from the Genius and with time that number...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charge FWC AGM's thru rear SAE with NOCO Genius 7200?

Thanks for the reply Paul! :) When you say that the Genius '...shares more of the characteristics...' I assume that you are implying that the genius has a 'program' or similar that adjusts the input charge for the most benefit to the battery. I plan to use a 'charge profile' that supplies a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charge FWC AGM's thru rear SAE with NOCO Genius 7200?

Does anyone do this? I have a NOCO Genius 7200 that has a 'setting' that provides 12V/7.2A or 12V/3.5A continuous charge. I recently acquired an SAE adapter that will allow the Genius to connect to the rear SAE port on my 2017 Four Wheel Hawk for replenishing the two 75AH AGM's in the camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC back up camera...help

On my '17 Hawk I cut off approximately 1-3/4 inches of rubber from the front of each bumper; just enough so that the bolts that hold the rubber bumper to the camper don't protrude beyond rubber & contact the truck bed. I then took the removed rubber blocks and bolted each to a 2"x3" wood block...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adequate Hawk Install?

Karlton, '17 Hawk owner here, mounted on a RAM. Upon getting my camper home from the dealer, I removed it to a pre-constructed dolly & 're-did' the dealer-installed eyebolts/washers/plates (all washers/plates were flex-sealed on one side prior to reassembly). I also replaced the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furring Strips Under Newer FWC

When I first prepped my '17 Hawk for the 'final' install, I had it up on the camper jacks and used 8 cans of black Flex-seal to coat the entire black-painted bottom (extending up the sides) as well as the 6 side-to-side 'runners' which were the contact points with the front-to-back truck bed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch light issue

"Old Crow to the rescue"...... Using the excellent info from OC I finally located this: https://www.valterra.com/product/led-flat-bulb-1141-1156-overhead-top-mount-180lum-3500k-12a-2-pack/ Found it on eBay and ordered a 2-pack, under $20 shipped. Thanks again everyone!! :D

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch light issue

So I removed the lens cover and got a look at a removable LED bulb assembly. I removed it, cleaned it and re-installed with no improvement. I then swapped it with the bulb from the side lamp (bulb appeared factory-new compared to the rear one) and found that the original rear bulb was defective...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch light issue

Thanks to all that have replied! I took another look, tried the switch jiggle thing, fist bang thing....I have yet to pop the lens for any type of cleaning. I will definitely try that and report results. With the clear lens cover in place it almost appears as if the LED 'bulb' has some type...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch light issue

After not finding anything like this during a search I've decided to present it to the members for advice. The rear porch light on my '17 Hawk appears to be LED in design; there are 3 vertical 'banks' of small LED-looking lights which provide illumination upon activation. My issue is with one...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Home for the Hawk 2500 Power Wagon

Again, I can visualize the issue you describe. In action, the airbags perform much like a HD anti-sway bar. The concept you describe seems logical but I can't say I've ever experienced anything like it. If my current air pump system (Airlift Wireless One 1st Gen.) dies I'll probably replace it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Home for the Hawk 2500 Power Wagon

Both airbags on my truck are connected to a single air source. I can visualize the 'body roll' scenario you mentioned but I have never experienced anything like that and have never heard of such a problem arising. If I venture off-road I minimize the air pressure anyways for maximum...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Home for the Hawk 2500 Power Wagon

For members seeking an airbag/pump solution for their coil-sprung Ram 2500's, I chose a multi-manufacturer setup for my '16 Ram 2500; I used a kit from Timber Grove Enterprises ( https://timbergroveenterprises.com ) hooked to a 'Wireless One' pump system from Airlift (...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear brake light

'Snaking' wire thru the camper body is going to be a serious challenge; I'd personally prefer wire thru the body/frame area vs running alongside existing structures. It's my belief that the innards of the camper walls contain pieces of styrofoam intended as insulation. Probably not gonna snake...

Sorry this is off-topic, but I'm curious about your solar panel - is that one of the newer Overland Solar panels, and if so, what is the 'watt' rating? It looks a little smaller than the 160W Zamp on my Hawk, definitely sits lower too. TIA!!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cabover Bed Mod

FWIW, I had installed some 'memory' foam into the lower (front dinette, un-dinetted) bed area and found out that when the temps dipped below 45 deg F or so the foam would harden up like curbstone. Tried to remove it from the camper and could barely get it out the door-wouldn't fold or crunch at all!
