RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Spring Maintenance

Great checklist, PackRat! Waiting to get our 7'CO and to begin the Alaskan adventure (including the annual spring cleaning). 80 degrees already? These are the days when I miss CA weather a bit. We were 40 this morning in Ashland. Might get up to 70. Enjoy the sun! Thanks again for the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West To Boat Rack or Not to Boat Rack?

Thanks for all the wisdom! I really appreciate the chance to put a topic out there and read everybody's perspectives. If I were going with a boat rack, I'd definitely go with a factory install. In the end, I've just decided to take along my float tube for fly fishing... Later... Art

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West To Boat Rack or Not to Boat Rack?

How do you handle getting boats on an off? it's quite a ways up there... Do you bring a small ladder along? I'm not concerned about weight, because our kayaks are light, but wondering about access to make sure they're strapped down tightly.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West To Boat Rack or Not to Boat Rack?

We're picking up our 7' CO at the factory in June... Still pondering, and need to call Bryan tomorrow, whether or not to add the optional boat rack. We have two light weight kayaks, one of which I use for fly fishing in lakes. What is your experience? I'm tempted because we have a beautiful...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West STEP UP Folding Stairs Storage

Just curious where you folks store the folding stairs in transit... If you store them inside the Alaskan, how do you secure them? I know I'll figure this out on our first trip, but I always appreciate the wisdom on this site! Thanks! Art

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Winterizing

Hey PackRat, Sorry for the late reply! You raise some really interesting points about the Alaskan vs. our Casita. We've thought it all through, including a visit to the factory to be inside a 7' CO that was near completion. Actually the difference in usable space and roominess is not quite...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West keeping our tiny 4 legged friends outside

So, we have ordered a 7 foot CO, and are selling our Casita trailer. Have had virtually no problem with critters before, even though we park it in an outside covered space, in the hills above Ashland, Oregon. What am I missing here? Is the Alaskan vulnerable to intrusion by the small...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Help: Need Advice about boat racks on a new 7 foot CO

So, we have ordered a 7' cabover and need some advice about one possible addition. We have two, light weight FolBot Aleut kayaks. We were not planning to take them with us with the Alaskan, but we do go places where we could use them. They weight 36 lbs. each, so with gear in them, we're...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Truck for the 6.5 foot cab over

So we finally made our decisions. We had settled on an F250 SuperCab 4x4, but there was an F350 CrewCab 4x4 with a 6'8" bed for a great price. We have that home now. We've ordered the 7' Alaskan Cabover to go with it. Really APPRECIATE all of the perspectives that were shared. I'm real...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Winterizing

We're seriously thinking about a 7' Cab Over. Presently, we own a 17' Casita travel trailer. Living at 2500' elevation in Oregon, winterizing is a must, so I'm used to the detail of the process. My question is how much work it is to winterize an Alaskan. We'll have a 25 gal. water tank, and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Winter Camping

We live at 2500 feet in the Rogue Valley... Every November, I winterize our little Casita. We have a pad with electricity and easy access to propane. I'm assuming that I will keep it heated...basically as though I were camping... that's what I want to know about. Obviously, the factory will...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Winter Camping

We're visiting the factory in Washington in a few days, considering the purchase of a 7 foot cabover. Living in Southern Oregon, we do get winter temperatures below freezing. My question is do you have to winterize? Also, can you camp in winter? I don't mean in the deep snow... just can you...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Truck for the 6.5 foot cab over

We're looking at a Ford Super Duty (3/4 ton)... It comes with either a 6 3/4' or an 8'... You're right about the small beds. 5' is fairly common, and 5 1/2 is the new "normal" for "regular" size beds.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Truck for the 6.5 foot cab over

PackRat, what do you think about the difference between an 8' and a 7'? After all of the input, we've decided to go with a 3/4 ton pickup... makes a lot more sense! Now, our question is 6 3/4' bed or an 8' bed. The cost difference between the 7' and 8' Alaskan is marginal, so it comes down to...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Truck for the 6.5 foot cab over

John, thanks for your comment. I'm looking at a new Alaskan and a new GMC. The 1500 has a maximum payload of 1880. Therefore, the 6.5 vs. the 7 footer. I'm looking into the use of helper springs which would increase the safety margin. We are light travelers, currently have a Casita trailer...
