Project Started, Big Wire and Victron, Oh My ! installing Solar and auxiliary battery, 2006 Hawk

Do you know if it is prewired for solar? I think it was an option, not standard on some of the older units. I would get in touch with KP Pawley, who is up in reno and he might have some recommendations of folks to contact to help with the install. I would also look into lithium batteries, they...

    ((Eagle/Fleet)) - Shell Amateur Build

I am in awe of this thread and other threads that do a good job documenting peoples travels. The information sharing on this board is awesome! I hope you reach your goal, I would love to join you all out in the desert, if it coincides with my trip back to Alaska. good luck!

FWC Now Offering 200Ah Lithium Option and Dual Solar Panel Option

In defense of FWC, it is awesome that they are finally offering lithium batteries as an option. In my opinion, lithium is such a better battery for the lightweight camper application vs lead acid (agm). There is dramatic weight savings and more power available for the space they take up...

FWC Now Offering 200Ah Lithium Option and Dual Solar Panel Option

Interesting choice of the manager 30. It has a low temperature charging cut off of 32 degrees. it looks like it measures temperature at the battery terminal so it probably reacts to external temperature fairly quickly. It would be better, in my opinion if it were to rely on the battery...

    Water Dripping off Roof

I purchased this extrusion for the project. I will mount it so that the lip points out, That way when I pull snow off the roof it won't get caught on the lip. I wish I could have found one in white. Wanted something lower profile then the J channel. Thank for the input...

    Water Dripping off Roof

Thanks Taku If I could mount it at the very top edge of the roof it may work for me. Where do you have yours mounted? Thanks

    Water Dripping off Roof

Happy New Year!! Has anyone come up with a good solution to divert water dripping from the roof of the camper off of the front corners? It seems like I always get a shower when it is raining and I get into my truck. I am looking at mounting a strip to divert h2o on the top corner of the roof...

    Salt lake military surplus

I’m driving across Utah right now. I remember driving by a huge military surplus store somewhere around salt lake in the early 2000’s. It was right off the highway. Anybody know what it is, or if it still there? I can’t figure it out on Google. Thanks!

    4AWG from the factory?

I installed a red arc 40amp dc/dc charger in my fleet, then upgraded the wiring to 2 gauge from the truck to the camper. I also have a Victron monitor installed so I have a pretty good idea of what is going on with the batteries. Here are rough numbers that I was getting for battery charging...

Low Temp LiFeP04 and Interview with battleborn CEO

Battleborne batteries have released their internally heated batteries. Look like they have a slightly different setup then some of the other options. https://battlebornbatteries.com/product/100ah-12v-lifepo4-heated-battery-kit/

    Starlink Internet

Exciting news on the internet front. Starlink has started their beta test for satellite internet service. Currently beta service is being offered by invitation only for some states in the northern tier of the lesser 48. Sadly for me, Alaska is a ways off. Looks like this will be a game changer...

Low Temp LiFeP04 and Interview with battleborn CEO

That is quite the white paper. The comments were enlightening and while i’m no expert my BS alarm went on right away. 11amp hour out of a 210ah battery at room temperature?!? I think that is what they got until the battery dropped to 12.2 volts, but what did the resting voltage of the battery...

Low Temp LiFeP04 and Interview with battleborn CEO

Thanks Dave, I checked their website out and it does not appear that they have a low temperature charging solution. Glad to see another lithium battery option. Take Care, Chris

    New battery question

I would contact the battery manufacture, or FWC, and see if it will be covered under warranty. I'm not sure what the battery warranty covers but I have had auto batteries replaced at NAPA before when they have failed to hold a charge.

Low Temp LiFeP04 and Interview with battleborn CEO

Here is a link that I just found to their heating pad. After a quick read of the description, it does not look like it is an ideal solution for me at all, since it runs off of an external tempurture switch. I like the idea of internal heaters that run when the core battery temp is too low...

Low Temp LiFeP04 and Interview with battleborn CEO

I got a response from battle born: Thanks for reaching out to us and for your interest in our new products. At the moment there is no specific release date but there has been talk about getting them out this winter. I would be surprised if they didn't come out before the end of the year...

Low Temp LiFeP04 and Interview with battleborn CEO

I stumbled across this interesting interview with the CEO of battleborn batteries, he really knows his stuff! I am in the market for a lithium battery and I am interested in some of the newer low temp batteries that have internal heaters. I see a couple of different manufactures offer...

New to me 2017 fleet - how to wire into truck - 2016 Tacoma

I installed the Redarc BCDC40 on my camper before I upgraded the wiring. I was quite pleased with the results, plus it also has a small MPPT solar charger built in to it. I went from charging the camper batteries at around 3-6 amps to charging them at 20-30amps. Honestly, I think that the...

New to me 2017 fleet - how to wire into truck - 2016 Tacoma

I normally use teflon tape on air fittings. Soapy water sprayed on all of the connections and bags can help find out where they are leaking. It looks to me a 100amp fuse is adequate for 4 gauge wire, but it sounds like you are going to keep the 10 guage wiring in the camper and go keep the...

Thanks for the input. I'll probably install an inverter, mainly just to have for charging stuff and see how it goes.

New to me 2017 fleet - how to wire into truck - 2016 Tacoma

Hi Stan, Why does FWC continue to use 10 gauge wire for the battery connection to the truck? When I got my camper hooked up on my Tacoma, my camper battery would charge from 3-6 amps, which often wasn't enough to keep up with camper battery usage on a trip. It seems like this is an issue that...

    Camper Vacuum/Power tools

I guess i should've mentioned I already have a small dust pan/broom. I have a carpeted entry mat that I cut out for the camper so the broom doesn't really work, and it is a pain to take the mat out to shake it out.

    Camper Vacuum/Power tools

What do you all do to keep your camper clean? I am getting ready for an extended trip this winter (4 months on the road) and I would like to come up with a solution to help keep the camper clean. My thoughts are either a 20volt dust buster style dewalt vac or installing an inverter to plug a...
