10 ply. Tire Recommendations

I went with Goodyear UltraTerrain after not really caring for the last set of Cooper AT3’s I had.
We don’t drive the truck a whole lot, but been super happy so far in a little snow, plenty of gravel and highway.

275/70/18 on an ‘11 Tundra in the high Colorado Rockies.

I run Cooper ST MAXX on my F350 and they have been. Very good tire. Tread design sits between a traditional A/T and M/T tire.

I’m getting the impression that all 10 ply tires work great! So many different different tires mentioned. I wonder if manufacturers compete such that they are pretty similar. Only exception mentioned is the old KO tires, now replaced by KO2.

As in so many things, not all work great in all situations. Ex: I offered that the KO2s might work great for the lighter Nissan; a great all around tire. But they didn’t last over 25k miles on my 1/2-ton Dodge. I really liked the driving characteristics of the Toyo AT2s on my heavier Chevy 2500HD (9200# GVW) but boy, they sure were loud around 40k miles. I think if you hang onto a vehicle long enough you find something that works and everything else is a serving suggestion. Don’t get me started on brands of oil or gasoline.

Spot on.. I also don't think there is any tire for our needs that is going to last more than 40k.. I haven't seen it yet..

285/70/17 Toyo AT3s here on my 1/2 ton Chevy. 33k miles and they still have about 50% of their tread left. These tires have been great off road in a variety of conditions, and still remain very quiet on the highway. I will be swapping them out for another set in the next smaller size in preparation for my new Hawk. They work great and wear evenly, best tires I have tried. I have gone through several sets of BFG ATs as well as MTs. They are good performers, but lack the longevity and quietness in comparison to the Toyos.

Nice.. might try those next!

Interesting comparison BBZ. I liked the KO2s except for the longevity issue and really liked the AT2s except for the premature road noise. Agree on the 40k mile expectation if using offroad for any amount of time. It should be noted that the stated 65k mile warranty for the Toyos referenced in the article is for p-metric sizes only; LTs get 50k.

On a previous truck, pre-camper era, the Toyo Open Country gave me excellent performance. I was very pleased with that tire.

I have my tire prejudices but I really should retry some brands. I didn't have good luck with certain tires but that was before I did a bunch of work on the steering. Maybe they'd work now?

Proper alignment, tire pressure and routine rotations goes a long way with any tire.

Coopers AT3 is still my favorite and to be sure. Having alignment done with the camper on is essential. I learned the hard way that tire wear and subsequent noise was my fault in not doing so.

A caveat to the above post. As they wear (I'm on my 3rd set) they get harder/louder ...not crazy loud but noticeable on a highway...a slight rumble. I Have learned to align the truck after new tires and rotate mostly on time. I am now open to other brands that might be as good/better. I live in snow country and Coopers have done well. Can't stand noised though so looking around.
