I bought a low mileage F150(2008 F150XL) a couple years ago with the idea in mind I would put an older Alaskan NCO on it. It came equipped with 5 so manual trans and a 4.2L V6. I began by changing all lubes, engine, trans and rear end to amsoil lubes. I removed the mechanical fan and put a Ford contour electric fan on with a Dakota digital controller. I put a. K&N intake filter kit on it, then I installed a Diablo Trinity 1000 ECM monitor/programmer and lastly purchased Nokian E rated tires, lowest rolling resistance of any tire made. All these changes changed my fuel economy (unloaded) from 16-18 to 22-25 (city-hwy). When I pull a heavy load I get 14-16. I think with the Alaskan I will maybe get 16-18. The trailer I pull with my aircraft maintenance tools is quite heavy. I shall see how it does with the NCO 8’ camper I hope to put on it later this month. If it handles that ok, I may see later on about a 8’ CO. If not, I have a 2004 F350 Flat bed with the 6.8 V10 that I can do similar mods to so it can live in the 16 mpg range.

I forgot to add, on the suspension, I put a set of Timbren suspension elastomerics, very economical and easy to bolt on (less than an hour)
