We recently had the good fortune of buying a mid 80's Keystone. We have spent the last 6 years taking our adventures in a 2000 FWC Eagle on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma so this will be a huge (literally) change. The folks we bought it from had it on a utility truck with a 9 ft. bed. He rebuilt it to fit that truck and in doing so made it a little longer in length and height (approx 12 inches on both). We still have a little finishing out to do on the inside but mostly it has been all upgraded.
After all our research we have decided mounting to a flatbed and filling in around with boxes would be our best bet. So we are currently truck shopping in hopes we can be road ready by the end of April.
Has anyone done anything like this??? And if so tip, pictures, words of caution are ALL appreciated.

Take a look at Sherptek

We had a mid 1980s Keystone and we now have a 2007 Keystone. Both carried on a 1993 Dodge W250 Clubcab Long bed diesel. As an aside, after carrying these with tailgate on and off we have settled on always leaving the tailgate on. It leaves a narrow shelf to stand on and a shelf to set things on which is often handy.

We went a different route than flatbed with side storage. I bought a spare 8 foot cargo bed and have had it customized with fold down sides and storage area similar to the hide-n-side concept. Customization cost is about the same as buying a flatbed.

Stahl makes a sculpted bed called the Grand Challenger that is a nicer looking utility bed style for Ford and Chevrolet trucks. I think there is still another manufacturer that makes (or maybe available used) a storage bed called a Sport Body or sculpted bed.

Here are some images in case the fold down side approach is of interest (it requires a bodyman who can do custom work). I need to add some recent pictures that show the fold down side "doors" and how it looks open and closed.
