After a too busy summer in town I was finally able to head for the hills. I wanted to go back to Alta Lakes that I “discovered” last year. Success! I’m so enamored of the lake, I hope I did’t post too many lake photos. I was also able to snap my best photo of Ship Rock ever.

Bill thanks for posting your fantastic trip.
What a beautiful area and that you had it almost to yourself.

Great bird shots also.
We've only camped in Colorado a few times and that was back in
the 80's,but it was beautiful. We did that camping with our kids
which made it more fun.

Thanks again for spending the time to post .

Thanks for your report on Alta Lakes and great photos! I'll have to check it out!

Cotton, Ski, Richard,
Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Ski, there seemed to be only one specie of damselfly, though many individuals, and one specie of dragonfly, only one or possibly two individuals in the area between my site and the lake. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more species earlier in the year. Both times I've camped here has been mid to late September.

Thanks.

One of my favorite places to camp is just above the intersection of Dunton Road and the road to the Calico Trailhead. Easy access to the Navajo Lake trails, the old stock trail and the Calico trails. Plus a great place to sit with a book and a beer after hiking those trails. Didn't make it up there this fall as my dogs are ailing/. Maybe next year

On Dunton Road as you head towards Dolores, there is an old working phone booth off the side of the road just sitting there.

If I loaded images correctly, it is in the second image.
