Hey all

Looking for an awning, but not overly excited to spend too much.. the Fiamma 45 looks nice but is it really worth the price tag?

What do you all recommend?

Thanks in advance.

My Fiamma is awesome. I would not get the Batwing I've been camping with others with the batwing and they always seem to catch the wind and cause problems. I like having the Fiamma side and rear as separate awnings.

I had a Fiamma on my Bobcat. My only complaint was with truck windows open, you could hear it rattle a bit on rough road. Other than that, it was great. Easy to use, quick to deploy or stow.

So on rough roads, I closed the windows :p

I have an ARB 1250 awning which is currently mounted on my pickup topper, that is going to be replaced with my FWC Hawk when it arrives. I’m currently perusing everything here on how to mount it when it does arrive. I have had the awning for over a year now and it works great, that’s why I decided to keep it. I also have the Deluxe Room with the floor. We can sleep in or use it as a screen room for bugs and a place to hang out with friends.
The only problem I have had was on the last trip when we were sleeping in it on the beach and something (raccoon?) must have been stalking around our camp and my dog jumped into the screen and bent the arm pole. But that was an easy repair and only about $10!

I am pleased with my 23Zero Peregrine. Must stake down if windy, just like many others. It does what I want it to do.

I believe all awnings must be staked down in a wind. If yours doesn't, you just haven't had the right wind gust yet that will sooner or later mangle it. In place of tie downs, I use canvas book bags that I put rocks or sand in and hang over my vertical poles.

If price is your major concern, get an ARB bag awning. They seem to be very popular, however, they are not perfect, but they are a good value awning.

Another vote for the ARB awning. If staked down properly it does just fine in the wind. We left it up over night and got a freak snow storm that left 4" of wet heavy snow on it with no problems at all. We also have the deluxe awning room that has been a life saver several times in really buggy campsites.

I have the fiamma F45 (crank out) on our current camper. I honestly don't use it all that much, but I am rarely around camp during the middle of the day when an awning would be most useful for shade. That said, I used the F35Pro (manual awning) on my last camper even less to almost not at all as it was generally not worth the effort to deploy/stow it. I imagine this would be even more true with a bag awning like an ARB. I would never leave any of these set up either overnight or while away from the camper - a freak gust of wind could do major damage to the awning and camper.

I guess it really depends on your camp/travel style - if you are at camp in the middle of the day and would have an awning set up for much of the time, a bag awning is probably a decent option. If you want to have one for occasional use (lunch out of the sun) then a crank out is much more convenient. If you are only around the camper in the morning and evening then an awning may not be that useful - with the low sun angles the camper provides much more shade than the awning.

Now if it rains where you are, that is a whole different ball game that I don't know anything about.
