Best way to remove jack mount putty?

1995 Hallmark LaVeta restoration continues!

My jack mounts are peeling and rusty, so I'm taking them off to zip strip them, prime and repaint them. They're covered with circa 1995 white putty. What's the best way to get this stuff off?

Heat gun and a scraper??

Yes, that might be the best way. If the putty is polyurethane based, which I think it is, than Marine Formula is the way to soften it up and make it easy to scrape / wipe off. http://www.marineformula.com/
