Colorado Springs Car Camping

Good morning all. I'm driving from PA to Colorado Springs to pick up my daughter at USAFA and although my wife isn't a big camper she agreed to one night under the stars. Ideally I'd like to head west a bit out of the city and find a secluded car camping spot in the mountains. KOA's aren't my thing so I'm trying to strike a balance between the backpacking I like to do and the car camping my wife can handle. I'm all ears if anyone has suggestions.

I just got back from a great camping area near Buena Vista, west of Colorado Springs. Not sure how capable of a car you have but some of the 4 mile recreation area isn't too rough. I didn't check it out but there are some camping areas around eleven mile reservoir.

Check out dirt Rampart Range Road northwest of The Springs. Drive north till you get past the burn.
