Planning a trip with our travel buddies, who also have a FWC Hawk. We will leave Davenport CA in June and will be taking the 80 through NV to visit friends in Kamas UT. From there we head to visit more friends in Jackson WY and then on up to the Tetons.

Does anyone have any should go, must see places or things along the way? Any epic hot springs, riverside campgrounds or fishing spots to suggest? We plan to be mostly dispersed camping with an airbnb sprinkled in here and there. We will have our kayaks and mountain bikes, and love nice loop hikes.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Take Hwy 50 and not 80...lots of places to "disperse" camp, less traffic, calmer, and beautiful vistas...take time to sight see at Austin and Eureka on 50.

In WY....go to Pinedale and drive up to Wind River Trailhead, camp in small CG or in huge parking lot....hike up to Kodachrome Point..

Eat in Pinedale at cool restaurant on E. side of main street...great food and nice folks.

Capt for your trip check to see if you need to get inspections for the kayaks.
Idaho and Wyoming have stations on the main roads to check for 'critters"
in your boats.

There is a fee for a sticker that approves of the inspection. To use any "flotation" devise in
Yellowstone you will need a park sticker.
Fishing in Teton NP requires a Wyoming fishing license but not in Yellowstone only a park one.

Teton/Yellowstone has always been a favorite place to go.

Have fun.

Correction on my previous post: Not Kodachrome Point but Photographers Point [10,350 ft] , it gives a great view of Wind River Range to the East...trailhead is Elkhart Park Trailhead; paved from Pinedale [14.5 mi] I believe trailhead is at 9,500 ft.

Hickison CG near Austin, NV is an interesting camp, with rock art, Bob Scott CG another
I have stopped at both of those seem to be quiet.
Hwy 50 is a great route. But if you still take 80 there is a nice campground
2 actually at Angle lake on the south side of Wells,NV.

Be sure to stop for an ice cream cone or shake at Old Mill Ice Cream in Star Valley Wyoming, just south of Jackson Hole. Back in the 70's I walked in to the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson and the Butterfield Blues Band was playing. Old Paul Butterfield could rock the house.

Thanks for the heads up! I did not think about that for the yaks, as usually I'm only getting the bilge and outboard inspected.

Thanks everyone for the great list of spots, keep them coming! We have no set schedule but love mapping out places and points of interest to visit along the way.

LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the end of Granite Creek Road off of highway 189 is Granite Hot Springs - 43° 22.188'N 110° 26.754'W

It is an open outdoor swimming pool with a fee to use. There is a small USFS campground a short distance down the road - before you reach the springs. There are dispersed sites along the river between 189 and the springs. Below the springs is a large waterfall. At the base of the falls is a primitive hot springs pool, but you need to wade the river to reach it. Care MUST be taken, especially early summer.

Thanks Ski! Should I expect crowds at the primitive pool in mid June?

Has anyone Camped at Big Den (BLM) in NV off the 50? We are looking to drive around 7 hours or so the first day. Big Den fits the bill and look primitive and beautiful.

We did some rainy day mapping with our friends yesterday and have a general plan now. Turns out we will also be visiting friends in Moab along the way!

1st stop will be at Big Den CG in NV
2nd- Great Basin NP
3rd- Moab UT
4th- Kamas UT
5th- Granite Hot Springs WY (hoping to avoid camp Bubba!)
6th- Grand Teton NP
7th- Yellowstone NP

That is the plan, but we are all open to shifting and adjusting as we go. We will branch off from our friends in Yellowstone, and then make our way back shooting over and down through Idaho. then we will wing it all the way back to CA. Super excited as none of us in the group have ever been to Yellowstone!

This is what I would do if I were making the trip from yellowstone through Idaho and back into the civilized world.
