HELP, What step combo do U use to enter & exit camper?

I think I'll get one like that and keep it on the roof. Last trip I was standing on my tire, hanging onto the propane tank and rolling the window up with one hand. A few trips I just left em down because it was too hard to get em up.

I was going to wait for the RV show in Portland this winter to see a FWC Hawk in person, but I'm thinking now I should take advantage of the December special and buy sight unseen. Never spent that kind of money without a visual, but thanks to all the information from everyone on the forum I believe I can trust the camper to be what I want. Time to start thinking about the options, and mods of course.
Anyone in the Eugene area with a Hawk I could look at?

You are very welcome. I don't think you can go wrong with a new Hawk no matter which options you choose. Be sure to get the furnace and for that matter anything you think you might need in the future, its cheaper now to get most options than it will be after the fact. Dear Santa

I'm thinking I'll go for the extended cab over, front window and small rear window, if it's not included. Also like the fluorescent lights, large fridge/freezer, extra outlet, aux. battery, screen door, probably the Fantastic Fan. Pass on the awnings, rear flood lights, exterior shower, slide out game room, and roof top jacuzzi. Have to make some sacrifices. Already I don't think I like the folding couch, but maybe I'm just not use to so much luxury. Wonder if it is an option to leave it out. We don't need the sleeping space and I think I could use folding chairs and table for dinning/casino. We are not large people. I know I could use a cot for sleeping if I had to and I would love the space for hauling my llama packing gear. Some cheese would go well with this whine don't you think?
Not sure about the rear steps. There appear to be more options available out there, so if they are not difficult to add later I'll wait. Same with the roof rack because I'm not sure what I'd be carrying up there, but it does seem practical. Maybe I'll get the long track installed. Gotta think about it and call Santa's rep in Sacramento.

I was in the same position as you. (Newer) Used models were hard to find in my area and I found it was hard to make a deal on a unit from a long distance....so we ordered a new one, "sight unseen"...largely from hanging here and reading other folks tales on the Net.

I have 2 words as a recommendation for you on your new unit....

Solar Panel

This is my favorite option on my 2008 Hawk. I STILL check the battery levels frequently...but everytime I do it reads "3/4 to full charge" on the meter. On the 2 times where I've stopped for lunch/had a delay in getting back on the road and have FORGOTTEN to switch to propane on the fridge/freezer the solar panel has saved my butt. I'm fairly sure the system would have been completely drained without it...

It's a BIG hit on the wallet...but again..the peace of mind/knowing that you have the 12V power you'll need for just about anyhting you want to do is invaluable on a cold night or when you're out-in-the-sticks.

Sounds like a good option package. The fan is another must, helps remove cooking and other misc. odors very well. We didn't need the couch for sleeping either so I turned it into the mini dinette and we love it. Take a look at the thread, maybe something like that would work out for you, though I don't think FWC can do the modification on a new unit due to regulatory constraints on their designs.

I saw that mod to the couch where the fold down was turned with it's back to the bed. So that was yours. Clever. I'll have to look at it again and see if I can tell what's left if I remove it entirely. Dang, I wish I could find a Hawk to look at.
Soar is good. It's probably no cheaper to do it myself later. I have to add up the options and prioritize them. May not be able to do it all at once. Have to drop some coin on a pack llama and gear. Gotta install the Ride Rites also.

Entry steps

We have been using accordion steps for years and they work very well. Available at Camperland, we have the 4-step model. I attached the accompanying bracket under the camper door using bolts. The steps accordion open, and the top step has a bracket that slips right over the bracket mounted under the door.
