Hi,

I have been lurking on this forum more off than on for the past 2 years as time and interest permit. I do find this forum to be a great source of info and ideas.

Anyway, I am new to posting on the forum, but not new to FWC. I am the original owner of a 1996 Grandby.

Very few mods over the years as we have always enjoyed it as is. One exception was to purchase a used screen door from FWC and installed it myself about 5 years ago.

Below are some photos of past trips.

Side Clearance

So I had a question regarding side clearance with my FWC and my Dodge.

Yes I had to remove the 1x2's at the rear of the camper to fit the bed of the Dodge.

Attached photo shows the results of trimming the siding after removing the 1x2's. (note the camper is currently not in the truck so I can't show the actual clearance).

Cargo Box

Bill,

I am looking for a bit more storage than I have and I see you have a swing away cargo box... Would you purchase it again or do something else?

Thanks,
SB

Welcome, nice pics. Lurking or not, it looks like you've been around longer than most of us.

Scott,

Absolutly, I would purchase this again. With my standard cab, storage is critical. I only got it a few years ago and wonder why I didn't get it sooner.

Throw stuff in, close the lid and lock it, and off we go. Don't have to worry about strapping stuff down on a flat hitch hualer. And the swing away works great to give quick access to the camper door.

With that said, there are a few problems with it. The lock is flimsey and can be pryed opend by hand. To combat this I have a bikecycle type cable lock wrapped around it. The fit was perfect.

Also the seals around the lid are not the best and will leak some water and dust. But this tends not to be a problem as we mostly use it for muddy boots, tarps, fire wood and other outside stuff.

I did get this for a good price used off of Craiglist. The newer ones I have seen seem to have better locks and seals.

Update - Here is a link to the model that I have from Camping World

Thanks Bill, that is JUST the info I needed to ease my mind on the camper I bought. I will have to do the exact thing. Thanks again...

Here is how I fixed mine to fit the Dodge.
