Gotta go up North next week and will be looking to camp somewhere just north of Sacto. the first night.Stealth camp OK as I will be solo. Don't really want to go further than 20 min.s from the Hwy.

Any recomendations?? How's the weather been??

thanks,
TT

You can use the rest area, it's ok to have the top up. You can legally stop/sleep for 8hrs. Remember to bring ear plugs, last time I camp in the rest area some big rigs idle all night.

Thanx for the input. Rest stop would be last case scenario.

I guess I'm wandering if there is anything a person might want to see in that area.

I see on my recreation atlas "Black butte lake" and"orland Buttes" just west of Orland and Chico. anybody been there?? Looks like camping close(ish) to the Hwy.

Not much up there

Hi TT,

From Woodland to Red Bluff is mostly agricultural area with not a lot of locations to overnight. Sorry, haven't been to the places you mentioned so no info there. Rain stopped early this morning and nothing expected for at least a week. Expect daytime temps in the high 50's, nights in the high 30's. If you don't come up with anything, we are about 1/2 hour from I-5 and you can overnight here. Let me know and I'll pm you with phone number, directions, etc.

Tomas black butte has good fishing if your in to that....it has been a while since I camped there... you can google earth the area there is Stoney gorge that has lake camping......there is the towns of Williams and Maxwell......fuel and food there is a nice rest area just before Maxwell.....Near by is Colusa casino in Maxell is east park res. but it is about 2 hours off the highway

Thank You for the offer Ted, I really appreciate that. I think I'm shooting for black butte lake. Looks like about 10 miles off the hwy with waterfront campsites...Will report back......

Thomas,

I have never been to Black Butte but my wife used to work for the Dept. of Forestry and spent quite a bit of time in that area. I asked her about Black Butte Lake and in her words "it's pretty ghetto" not awfull but don't expect a crime free mountain wonderland. Much of the foothills in that area has a Meth population.

Perhaps someone who has been there more recently (within the last 5 years) can chime in.

Also like the others have said most all of the land North of Sac. is private agricultural. There are some levee roads you could hide out on but keep an eye open.

Good luck, we expect a full trip report.

Sam.

Hey TT

If you want something simple, pretty quiet, and don't need bathrooms, you are more that welcome to park here in our parking lot here at Four Wheel Campers ? We are out in the boonies, so you should not have anyone bugging you. We are about 15 minutes North of Sac, right off I-5.

Just call or e-mail me if you want and I can give you the full details. But you can stay without asking if need be. We are happy to have owners stop by and camp for the night if they want. We have a big parking lot.

Cool!

Sam, Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet but may give BB lake a try if I get that far.

Stan, that is a great offer and may be my best option. I'll see how I feel around Sacto. and may stop in and sleep.

I'll call the office if I'm stopping. If I make it before closing can I get a quick tour?? Shucks, your that close to the Hwy, I may have to stop and have a look whether I stay or not..

Stealth in the shadow of Grand(by)ness

The factory ended up being a great option for me that night. Thanks Stan for leaving the gate open and giving me permission. I asked Stan if there was a specific area that he wanted me to park, the answer, any where you want.

Well it was a dark and windy night......and BUTT A$$ COLD!! I took shelter in the wind shadow of the Granby display model. I had a great sleep and was out at 5:45am.

I noticed FWC has no Ranger model on display, I fixed that if only for about 9 hours...

Complete trip report to follow soon....

Tomas your camper blended in really well. I did a second look after you said you parked with the others. I had been to the factory before and my mind just did not let me see the one that was yours. Just a display with the door open.

Great picture.

It looks like your camper fits right in.

Glad the parking spot worked out for you.

Stop by the factory anytime - we would be glad to give you a tour of the factory when you have a bit more time.
