LED interior lights vs incandescent and Fluorescent

I replaced my bulbs with LEDs like HighZ's. Think they might be the same ones. But out of 4 bulbs, two are white and two are red LEDs. I put the red ones on the side where you can leave just one bulb on, so you can use just red.

That sounds like a cool idea. I did a bit of searching at superbright, but haven't found the red led bulb that adapts to the 15mm base. Do you remember where you got yours, Brett?

I converted my last camper to LEDs and will doing the same to the new Cougar I'm picking up for inventory. I got the lights for the Cougar on eBay. I went with the warm white for the interior and the bright white for the exterior lights. They were far less expensive on ebay and other auctions sites than Superbrite. I really like the way the perform and no heat. The amp draw is next to nothing.

I don't remember where I got them because I tried several from different places. I did try eBay, the other places mentioned in this thread and also VLEDS: http://www.v-leds.com/

In fact, I'm pretty sure I have this one:

two are red LEDs. I put the red ones on the side where you can leave just one bulb on, so you can use just red. It's really nice at night when you need to get up for some reason and want to see, but not blind everyone. We'll even leave a red one on when outside by the fire and the dog is sleeping on the couch- you go to get something and don't have to ruin your night vision. We just leave it on for hours and hours- it seems to runs on magic, not amps.

I imagine the red ones are also good for romantic situations...

Love the idea of swapping out the incandescent bulbs for led bulbs in the existing FWC light fixtures. -Can't quite find the correct led bulb on superbrightlights.com from the info on this thread. Would someone be able to paste a link to the warm white bulb

Thanks!!

My posting from past search from http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2607/page__hl__v-leds__fromsearch__1

Also find links to Superbrights

I did four of the 48 wide angle from V-LED

http://www.v-leds.co...M-p5217649.html

Have not had out on the road just in the drive way at night. Have a lot of light without the spot light effect. I did use the double sided tape, had to use double thickness to keep the sides from touching. Like the no heat and low elec use.

Bill

I went with the V-Led company also but have the 48 light 5K temp. I like the white this puts out, I also replaced the lens cover with a clear one. They hardly use any on the battery. They come with many plug in bases.

What a great find! Thanks.

It looks like a guy could even wire them to a separate switch....and just paste them in there with the regular flo lights ( just looked and there might be enough room)...and have the best of both worlds....flo lights (much better coverage) for times when you have lots of juice....or led lights (reduced lighting) for when you need to conserve juice.

Nice.

I've been lurking for almost a year now, and decided to join up a little while ago.
I'll introduce myself in the appropriate location in a while.

However, in the mean time, I'll just say that I've got some ocean sailboating experience (i.e., where there are limited electrical resources).

So, here's what I like in the way of LEDs.

I use Sensibulbs by SCAD Technology LLC

Basically a bunch of techno-heads that have designed a very wierd looking, but great LED unit.

http://www.scadtech.com/home

Yes, they are initially expensive, however, in the long run, the cost can be reduced over the approximate 50,000 hours of operation and IMHO worth every penny of their price. So, it's only really a sticker shock, buy one, try it out and then if you agree with me that it's the best there is, then you can get some more. Plus I've got a slightly lower price source at the end of this message.

Here are some web stores that sell them at the regular $40 each.

If you're existing light housing doesn't have the "G4" socket or you don't want to change out the light housing to that kind of socket, there is an adapter...
http://www.navstore....il.aspx?ID=1806

And, if they are too bright, SCAD also makes a dimmer, however, it's about the same price as the Sensibulb.

Here's a web link that has photos showing the light output of various led lights, almost a scientific study, trying to keep the variables of the test to a minimum.

And now, here's a guy on Ebay that sells the Sensibulbs at $25 each.

I've purchased from him, however, other than that, I have no affiliation with him.

Once the Ebay listing is no longer functioning you can just Ebay search on "Sensibulb" or search on his Ebay seller's name, which is "vacadelsol".
He's in Watsonville, west of Salinas.
He's a little slow in shipping them out, as he may only ship on a certain day of the week.

As you've hopefully found out by reading the info at the links above, there are two types of Sensibulbs, the older style that are warmer in color (these are what Vacadelsol is selling and the ones I like... very much like an incandescent light) and the newer version that some guys don't like as they are "cooler or bluer light", much like a lot of other LEDs.

I hope this has been helpful (and that my web links work properly, every forum is different it seems).
I hope I didn't go over board in this, my first message here.
What I hope I've done is answer any questions that anyone might have, ahead of time.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the report. Looks like they're finally catching up. Still haven't changed my mind that they're worth the cost for the the guy who mostly just goes out weekends.

They are worth cost just as assurance that you don't burn a whole through the canvas should the light vibrate on while the camper top is lowered.

Hey will I never live this down?

Another bulb that I bought is made by "Star Lights Inc." It is a bayonette bulb and fits nicely in the FW Camper existing fixture. It is 200 lumen (brighter than the incandescents combined)and I paid $24.99. Bought it from an RV parts store in Seattle area called Evergreen RV. You can buy it on line at:

http://www.starlightsinc.com/shop/pc/showsearchresults.asp?pageStyle=H&resultCnt=9&keyword=revolution+200

I removed the 2nd bulb in the fixture because this single bulb was so bright.

Well I broke down and ordered some. For me the issue wasn't so much normal power consumption, but what happens when I forget and leave them on. Not really a problem on short trips but could be an issue where I leave the truck for a day or two. With three porch lights where any idiot can walk by and turn them on its a little bit of piece of mind.

Hi Craig. Have you thought of adding a on/off switch inside below the fridge area. On our bobcat thats what Marty does. It gives you the convenience of leaving the switch on out side and being able to turn them on and off from inside. Also eliminates the problem of some one messing with the switch on the lights.

Frank

The other thing that is nice in the ATC Bobcat and assuming all ATC's, is the master kill switch. I assume that the newer FWC's must have something similar. When I am away from the camper for an extended period of time...especially at a trail head I kill all power to the camper so that no one can mess with the outside power.

I just ordered 2 of these in the 150 lumen size for the outside lights. $18.88 shipped from Tweety's. I'll post a report once they get here.

I just spent over a hour looking at Tweety's and internet searching on these things. Came down to ordering the 250 lumen at 3200K for the outside porch and a 200 lumen at 6500K for the inside bathroom in the Casita. I suspect the 6500K will be on the blue side of white, but ok for a bathroom. I'll let you know what I think also.

I got the Starlights mounted in the porch lights today and they seem to work good. These are the 150 lumen models that draw 150ma. You can also get 200 and 300 lumens if you want brighter. These are 6500K units so the light is a little harsh but the yellow lens tones it down.

I found that Starlights Inc is located here in Goleta so why not support the local economy. When they arrive the package is marked with the typical hecho in China crap. You just can't get away from them.

Not a fan of the blue/white light? (I think that is what that color is right?) I use that color on my porch at my house and find it fine for that kind of stuff. I prefer the daylight white color indoors though.
