Could it finally be time to tour? We headed out on Friday but it was a bit presumptious. Thick rain crust and only 25cm of granular snow beneath. Light on your feet was key to saving your base! So much temptation this time of year as I can still get the truck up to such high elevations!

But tomorrow it's on!

There's an old ski lodge up in the alpine near town that is used by a snowmobile club, who kindly operate a webcam. It is a great resource for backcountry skiing locally. Nothing like a set of eyes to determine the weather! Black Tusk Snowmobile Club

How are your forecasts looking?

The big ski area near Bend, Mt. Bachelor, got 2" of snow overnight for a total of 10" at the base (or so they claim).
It's currently 27°F at the base and 17°F at the top, so that's not bad...but it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow.

I don't downhill ski anymore, but they also have a good system of groomed Nordic trails, which I rarely use anymore either, but the Bachelor report/data is still a good indicator of snow conditions in the nearby backcountry.

Well, central Oregon's Mt. Bachelor dodged a bullet -- they will be able to open tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day.
After a too-warm southwestern storm that made it questionable if Mt. B would open this week at all...it cooled down and dropped a couple of feet of snow up there, so they made the official announcement last night.

Well, it's snowing good now, real big flakes-continue to stick, snow is starting to pile up here in Susanville, either it must be the end or maybe winter. Just tasted my red beans and ham hocks-were good; the dog whisperer on tv is talking about wolf dogs-and running in the woods, so let it snow, and TCM is still showing end of the world movies---and we are still here. Well let it snow , let it snow. Should I have put this on the End of the world thread?---sorry, another combination one I guess, but the snow, fire and food are fine, may have to put on my snow boots to walk down the hill to the watering hole! Merry X-mas:LOL:! Sat. dish is filling up with snow-another sign of something, maybe another drink before we loose power and need to put out my lanterns and check the wood pile as is usual during these heavy snow storms! Well tv just went down, power probably next.

...Well tv just went down...

When the TV is down, that's close to "end of the world" for me...and when the Internet goes down then it's ALL over.

Local stations still on, rest off, just got another arm load of wood on the porch-ready for what ever! Let it snow and where is my super radio?
