Getting tired of this 40 year old heavy fridge and thinking about pulling it out and going with a "modern" chest style on a slide out, any thoughts? maybe the stovetop as well.
My 1966 8' Alaskan NCO had an original ice box which I removed and replaced with a built-in Engel brand 2.2 cu. ft capacity 12 volt marine refrigerator. It takes up the same width as the old ice box and is ~ 6" shorter, leaving room above it for a handy open shelf. The refrigerator is powered by a 12 volt AGM battery that is recharged daily by two 100 watt solar panels on a roof rack. I simply swing open the door to put in or retrieve food or cold drinks. I don't have to get myself out of the way of a sliding chest type of refrigerator to use it, nor worry about the fridge coming loose and sliding out on its own when traveling. And any sliding fridge also requires some type of power to cool it, most likely 12 volt electricity. You have to consider where that power will come from.
