Jeanne and I headed out to Moab for a Jeeping trip. I have been to Canyonlands in the truck but had not been out with the Jeep. No Jeeper can say he's a Jeeper until he has been to Moab.

We drove up Tuesday night and Wednesday and camped in Sand Flats campground above Moab a few miles. These are primitive campsites with only pit toilets. I ran up Fin and Things trail that was right next to my campsite to get used to going up slickrock. It's cool to skirt the fins.

The first full trail was Chicken Corners. It was long but had a dramatic ending overlooking the river. The foot path was also a kick. One slip and it would be your last hike.

Second day we decided to head to the Manti LaSal mountains and went up La Sal Pass. Near the top was an area with snow. The snow blocked the road and if you tried to plow through it it would clump up against your tire and bring you to a halt. 3 ATV drivers joined me and we shoveled and plowed to trailblaze the road so others could get through. I had to tow them through. After lunch I was going to go around a loop and go back down the mountain via the Geyser Pass. However I got to a point where only a foot of road was showing through the snow and a cliff was on the side of the road. We headed back downhill and took a normal road back.

On the third day I decided to head to Hell's Revenge. This trail is a kick in the pants. More like puckers your pants. It is not for those afraid of heights. I linked up with some folks I just met and we traveled the trail together. Pictures fail to do justice to the steep climbs and the eeriness of crawling on these narrow ridges.

On the last day we wanted to stop at Dead Horse Point before heading down to Surprise Arizona to see my brother and sister in law.

Enjoy the pictures

Nice shots, Keith. Looks like fun. How was it towing the Jeep behind the Dodge with FWC on board?

Easier than I imagined. This was the first real test. Pulled grades with cruise control on. Measured mileage was 11.5 to 12. Diesel rigs are definitely powerful. The Cummins 5.9 just does its thing.

That's amazing mileage, considering two vehicles were transported. Almost like driving a Dodge and Jeep and getting 23-24mpg from both. :)
