Ok everyone ... Looks like I'm going to have to put some new shoes on the White Mammoth before I leave for Colorado. What are you guys running, Type, Size and Brand and why ??. As of now I have narrowed it down to these three in 275/70/18. 1.) Cooper ST, 2.) Toyo M55, 3.) Toyo MT. Thoughts and opinions ?? You out there Jon ?

Hey Marc,

I run 275/65 18's. I had some P.O.S. "P" rated tires on the truck when I purchased it, and they didn't handle worth a darn with the camper on. I found "E" rated Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires and they are great. Just the fact that they are built to handle a load was good enough for me. I can't tell how dramatic a difference it was to change tires. My truck now feels as if there is no camper on it at all while on the highway. The MSRP was $215.00. I was able to find them on special for $150.00 each, including mounting and balancing, at a Wal Mart supercenter. The only added cost was high pressure valve stems, an extra eight bucks. Although I don't like to support the Big Box stores, the savings was substantial enough that I had to buy them. I made countless phone calls and looked on line for "E" rated tires and couldn't find anything under $200.00, so I went with the Goodyear. I am totally satisfied with these and feel very safe when in the back country, and on the highway.

I hope this helps.

Paul

Marc I just got back from Discount Tires and found that I still had 40% tread life on my BFG's. That was good news. As I said yesterday I think next time I'm going to try the Hankook Dyna Pro 285/70-17 but I am very interested in the Michelin LTX series, they have a much less aggessive tread design which should produce better fuel mileage. The BFG & Mich are $260 a set more than the Hankooks which is a consideration and the "Kooks" have a 50K warranty.

I gotta throw my vote in for E rated BFG AT's, although I think we may have had a conversation where you mentioned they weren't for you.

+1

I've had the Mich's once, not bad, but I think I have an addiction to the look of the BFG AT - it doesn't hurt that it's a seriously sweet ride.

Marc,

I think you know my opinion..............

BFG All terrian K/O..........I even have them for the Casita trailer tires!!!

I have the BFG Revo on mine. I don't know what they're rated for, nor do I have a load on them but they sure ride nice, and wear well.
Good luck!

Thanks to all that replied, I appreciate your time and opinions.

Pulled the trigger and went with a brand that I have never used, (Always been a Toyo & BFG Guy) Cooper ST AT's in 275/70/18 which was the original size the the truck came with. Previously had Toyo AT's in 285/75/18. The deciding factor was the endorcement from a friends cousin who's family runs a large sheep station in OZ and runs these tires exclusively on all their trucks with good results. He also mentioned that it has been the #1 AT there for a number of years running. This along with the notion that it is ONE of only TWO American Owned Tire Companies left in the USA, (You like that Jon ??). Needless to say I am quite pleased with the way they look and handle so far. The CO. trip will be a good test. Lets see.
